Old North East haulage companies (Part 1)

Anyone remember Tucker’s Brewery bottom of Gateshead High St ■■? Would be all hand ball back then !!!
Clark Taylor has been mentioned before on this thread. They would keep a six wheeler going all week delivering coke over to the West.
Cheers Tyneside

Hargreaves Quarries. Used to have three or four 4 wheelers working every day out of Urpeth Quarry. Pockerly Farm is further over the hill from the quarry towards Beamish. I think there was some sand or gravel extraction going on.

Great stuff, Tyneside. Regards Larry.

RHA membership Cerificate and letter when my Grandfather joined in 1934.
Looks like Bedford had their own insurance scheme for drivers in the thirties.

Hargreaves clearwaste who had orange wagons based in Birtley had the landfill at Urpeth in the 80s.That was a sand pit along with a lot of the land over there.Hargreaves had 8 wheel roll on roll off skip trucks and some tankers.Biffa took the depot over after them.

If my memorie is right Im sure Birtley Brick Co used the sand from there , as well as Sand from Blaydon [Tilcons] Barkers Transport has a 6 wheeler tipper Sedatki I think used to do it. Regards Larry.

hi lads, i can remember tucker brewery, unfortunately they and a few other small breweries where swallowed up by the newcastle brewery, who promptly closed them all down, sad day for anyone who enjoyed a descent pint of bitter, :unamused: :unamused: bumper

What year are we looking here Moot Law has been running a Long time, but of course has now been mothbald ? this was a great shock to the the hauliers who were running out of there, I myself did a bit out of there & I must admit getting paid every 7 days was a bit of a bonus, but Im refering to the 80/90s. I have had work from firms that kept us waiting for 3 months , before we got paid, Bobbing Rastards is what I call them, a lot of these robbers a the cause of hard working haulage firms going bust, luckily we came out on top. Regards Larry

Larry these photos are from Feb and June 2010.
The top quarry is full of water. There are stock piles under the water.
Do you remember any of the old ARC drivers who worked out of Mootlaw? Ernie Johnston,Tow Chain (Joe Nixon) Albert Adamson.
