Its surprising how many companies the Northeast had, just a few are ; Adams, Archbolds, Baxters, Blacketts, Capstaff, Cook, Crow, Cazaly Bros, Ellis, Elldis, Ferguson, Freeways, McPhees, Mole, Murray Hogg, Ouseburn (Steenburg’s), Orrell & Brewster, Owen Pugh, Redpath, Short, Smiles, Smith and Van Hee, Walkers, Waugh, just need some pics now! D617 and D618 were both simpson motors painted in the old colours 617 was repainted in the new colours and 618 was sold on to Deans and is still about, seen here at Barnard Castle last year.

The photo of the Curries scammell JVK 213 I rember those wagons they got them new in 1944 they were transporting gear up to the opencast coal site at Harford Hewit Hill site I had many a ride in one of them driven Dusty Rhodes my Grandad was the road foreman in those days

Nice photos 2 old atkis eh, Charlie Quickfall drove Jakeys & I drove WTN 58 Baxters Trailer boy in 1957 the solo when got An 8 wheel Atki PGR251 The old boy on the trailer was Tommy [Granda]Nixon from Hazlerigg happy days eh

Welcome to the thread Lawrence, I remember your name from the “old boys” at Waughs who came over from Baxters with you when they amalgamated. Parky Denholm, Brian and Tommy Johnstone (not related). Another name was that lovely fella George Fearns, a true gent. I know Bob Kinghorne was still around about 5 years ago but I’m not sure if thats still the case.
Ps You may remember this motor. I think Bob Greenlees drove it. Oops I almost forgot Billy Robson!!! regards kevmac47

What’s the story behind the Eiger Racing trailer behind Simpson’s FM Marcus22? The reason I’m asking is that it’s been parked in Fergies yard at Washington for the last two years and doesn’t seem to have turned a wheel in that time.

Nice photos I was trailer lad from tme to time then got it solo when they got PGR251 8 wheeler Atki the old boy on the back of WTN 58 is Tommy [Granda] Nixon from Hazlerigg where a lot of Baxters Drivers lived in 1957 Jakeys Atki was driven by Charlie Quickfall for years it was replaced with a 8 wheeler MK 5 AEC1962 great stuff a good bunch of lads in those days Larry.
