Here’s a bit about Wades from a mag from years ago. I remember that Hino of Bells, it was painted up with a big red indians head on the cab.0

every driver should have day in a hino its a experience ? this one had a crash box i hated it

Here’s another of John Wades I forgot I had. It was taken at the Geordie Truckers show at Witton Castle in the 80’s. Whatever happened to the Geordie Truckers Club?

Taken about 86/87 if I remember it was brand new, certainly looks it.

Some more from Witton Castle

Howay lets shove a Allinsons motor in fom way back!! Vic.

Some good pics there F7 sidd and some names that haven’t had a mention on here before, Charlie Newton’s smart fleet all with private regs, Dunns of Shildon and Sunderland Metals now part of EMR. Stan who worked for them always kept his rolly wagon immaculate, it’s not always the big glamourous Volvo or Scania tractor units that catch the eye. I know you like your tippers so here’s an Iveco 8 wheel muck shifter when it was brand new to Alex Smiles. They were tough motors and could go for fun grossing 32 ton, and sometimes a bit more and didn’t seem to rot away as quick as the artics for some reason. This one was on show at Tipcon at Harrogate before it was delivered.
The other one is a Merc 1838 which I drove from new. Did nearly a million k in this and the only bother it gave was dirty fuel filters, probably the dusty work it did in scrapyards and quarries plus Smilesey wouldn’t buy genuine Merc filters for it.

Have not seen any pics of Elmfield Haulage from consett here yet.Gordon Wilson had about 10 motors at his peak, dad used to work for him then.Did the kettle chips work out of norwich, long hrs for him but kit was good.

REF photos Geordie Truck Show Sid the one with Richie Bolams Scania the one next to it is my FL it had just been painted in wavins colours but it had a red visor so me & Proudlocks driver in the photo below that which had a blue visor did a bit of a swap I got his blue one & he took the red one Wonderd what Gordon Armstrong would say about it but he was OK as it did look better

Somebody on earlier asking why Geordie Truckers packed in all of the lads were just working truckers & the show was getting bigger Witton castle was wanting more out of it,It took all yr to organise Maurice Jarvise, Jeff West, Richie Bolam, Jeff Suddas (RIP), Biilie Lister, Davy Rogerson, & me & one or two others that used to help with them. Not so much us on the fringes but the main men got a bit fed up with all the (unpaid) work it took to get it on every yr so Geordie Tuckers was disbanded its a pity because it was a good little show that took nobody``s eyes out not like the likes of Peterboro etc

Some more scrap motors.

f7sidd you’ve got some good pictures, but can we please see them a bit bigger?

Spot on them Sidd, Robinson’s at Blaydon and Jimmy Stanley’s, you can always tell when the scrap prices are rock bottom when Jimmy Stanley’s yard is empty. That MAN of Stanley’s is typical of scrap men, nice shiny motor with a battered old bin on it’s back. When I got that 1838 at Smilsey’s it was the first brand new unit he’d ever bought. He had two trailers, a tidy one and one that looked like the army had been using it for target practice. Guess which one I got to put on the back of the shiny new Merc.

You’ve just mentioned another name frome the past Greek,Davey Rogerson, had some great nights out with him.

Hi Greek,

Did you drive the Volvo FL10 4x2 unit of GE Armstrong, that was painted Maroon and Silver to celebrate their anniversary?.
Some pictures are on this site somewhere!!.
I remember the truck brand new, when it arrived at Harold’s paint shop - Harelaw in 1986, it was my first job since leaving school. They used to paint all the new trucks from Darlington Commercials, and Union Trucks.
My Dad had Signwritten the truck, as he did to all the GE Armstrong Volvo tractor units.
Previously - Didn’t Armstrongs also have a Renault TR280 unit also?.

Did you know Ian Farrell, and Phil Turner while you were working at Gallachers?.

They are working at Co-op Birtley, along with Lynne Gallacher who works in transport office!.

Cheers
Phil.

No Phil the silver one was driven by Micky Hopkins I only had that wavin FL a few months then Kieth Butler went on shunting in Wavin so they gave me his F10 F830 JBB, Micky now shunting in wavin for Durham City&I do know Ian & Phil didn`t Know Lyn was working down there.

Kev I started for Elddis after getting paid off at the Brewery firstly at Consett but Davy who was working for Elddis out of Durham had a heart attack never got his licence back so I ended up working out of Durham

hi phil
i can remember ian farrell he worked in the garage at grady halls for a short spell cant remember if he came to gradys from gallachers or went there when he left.
