Old North East haulage companies (Part 1)

Hi Harry long distance retired

If you spent as much time talking drivel on the job as you do on here then it’s no wonder you could not complete the shift !

Thanks Bob almost retired

Hi auld_man_bob remember the night out you had in Wetherby with ■■■■ when you had an argument with a car and woke up Harrogate Hospital. Must have hit you hard!!

I worked for Brain Olds transport for 10+ years in the eighties and early nineties. Best job I ever had although I did not realise at the time. Good set of lads and a fair boss . Long hours but pay was Ok and never two days the same. Plant haulage driving low loaders and Brimec self loading plant bodies.

Franky last I heard of Jimmy he had found himself a rich ■■■■■ & was off touring europe in a camper but that would be a couple of yrs back.

Ha ha, he might not have looked it but he had his head screwed on, I liked Woody (Jimmy) great attitude and a good grafter.

1984 for that Bucks Fizz accident, blimey further back than I thought, I remember Jimmy Gudrum telling us about it at the time, he had recently gone to Hodgson’s from Van Hee’s. I was looking over the motor in Albany’s yard yesterday belonging to Bob Davison from Washington that had turned over last week, done a bit of damage but I don’t know how he fared if he was driving it, shame looked a nice motor.

hiya,
Even Brian Backhouse and Dave Johnson let rip at Brucie and neither of those lads, who i hasten to add i got on very well with and none of us was averse to doing over the odds for a fair days pay and, and to go and do Consett/Dagenham return Consett is very unreasonable and certainly not legal we are talking 600 miles plus here and “auld bob” whoever you are, if you think that’s a fair days work, and seemingly you think i’m not up to the job because i could’nt do the same, i think you mean i was’nt daft enough to do the same, don’t you.

Hi Bob
How did we all manage at Glennys when Harry long retired was’nt there, was the 55 footer just parked up?
Evidently what prevented Harry completing the shift was his regular dodgy nights out, as he has also bragged about on here :unamused:
Not sure if Glendinning sacked him in the end for that or possibly the bridge inncident, which could explain his sour grapes attitude to the firm.
When were you there Bob? I finished about 20 or so years ago, started out on general then a few years on the cars. Many great memories…

hiya,
No was’nt sacked but got the chance to go back to the BRS, which was more to my liking having done a spell for them in the North Western area, and I never had a dodgy when working for Glenny too many spies as for sour grapes yes maybe but to take half a weeks wages from a man with four kids, to do a repair which i could have done in in half an hour of my own time we are talking only one stone here and it was purely an accident and i never had many of them in a lifetime as a driver.
thanks harry long retired.

Cannot remember Brian ever looking that young!! I think he is standing with Doc Holliday, can you remember him?

Is that Harry Long Remembered on the far left in the proper headgear drivers cap, boiler suit and steelies?

Thanks Bob

Hi Bob
That cannot be Harry Long Time Fired as there is not a 55 footer in sight.

Hi, transporter man,
Remember T50, the 55 foot skelly, we got it in 4 pieces and Hey Presto…
Yes Doc Holliday. Got one of Brian Hubbard at 23 year old !
