I cannot remember you despite you giving out your full name■■?
Your previous post said, with you “what you see is what you get”.
I can imagine that combined with your proper headgear drivers cap, boiler suit and steelies it speaks volumes

Hi Harry,
I think the “gadgie” as you call him looks very smart in the photo.
Is it right what you say that you were the only long distance driver at Glennys? I thought they were almost all on nationwide work…
hiya,
Can’t recall saying i was the only Glenny driver doing journey work, nor would i because nothing was further from the truth it would be the mid 70s when i did my bit at Island garage the only depot at that time and i can never remember there being more than 25/30 motors at that time the majorority of whiich were "down/up the road motors"there was a couple of drivers on artics who stuck round the doors as well as the tippers they seemed to stay localish but for the most us it was nearly always Brum or O’er the Border any South Wales was usually transhipped onto the “drop down car transporters” to get the car men down loaded and handy for Oxford and a load of cars back to the North East usually Marina’s in those days, but please Twinsplitter point me in the direction of where i said i was the only driver doing distance work i am aware i’m losing my marbles but cannot remember making such a stupid remark, the lads i mainly ran with on general haulage were my good friend to this day Brian Backhouse others were Gerry Irving, Dave and Ronnie Johnson Dave “Dickie Mint” Coxon these lads i ran with on a regular basis and we used the same digs in Dudley “Roger’s”.
thanks harry long retired.
hiya,
What you see with me me is what you gets ie proper name and certainly nothing to prove, still waiting to see where i made the statement i was the only driver at Glenny’s doing distance work away man stand up and be counted.
thanks harry long retired.
hiya,
Did’nt stand out in a crowd Bob, but would certainly be the one not wearing a silly cap or boilersuit and thankfully did’nt need to work there very long.
thanks harry long retired.

Hi
Seen these photographs in Bob Tuck’s books printed in the late 80’s early 90’s
second 'photo show’s Consett Iron Companys (CIC) tractor No. 1
Remember your old mans face duncan remember Malcolm well .Can`t remember his name but there was a driver died as a result of being chucked off on of those cage trailers by one of the big coils of pipe. Could be when Cloughy went on that job from the flats.
Did your old man go on to Johnsons at scotch corner?

think this is the first hodgsons motor ive seen on here
That pic was taken outside Alan Pendleton’s house in Blackhill,he lived 3 doors up from me.Used to bring the wagon home with him. There were a few belters of Hodgy’s that he used to bring back,F88,86’s and various F10’s too.Ger Kearney used to work for Mike Hodgson at the same time. They used his truck to re-create Penny’s accident on scotswood road when he hit the bus.Had his truck in the garage for a week to make sure everything worked on it.

Hi Harry, I think that its remarks like this that possibly gives the wrong impression:
i actually brought their first 55 ft trailer they bought from Barry Island i was the only driver that used it when I worked there special long jobs from Bolton’s at Castleside bit tight getting in and out of that yard
i had a decent motor when i was there was it suited him with me being on distance work i had to have something reliable, otherwise i’d have had the fleet banger.
The 55’ footer was bought to do the cranes for Boltons out of the Malton Works Nr Lanchester I can remember Tommy Bruce moved most of them.
I stopped at Rogers a couple of times with Davy Johnson, the parking was a problem I can remember Don Buchanan had his truck complete with load stolen from the park also Brian Backhouse had a confrontation with some guy who was trying the cab doors when Davy and him were coming back from the pub one night.
paw123:
Hi, transporter man
Was it Don Bucanons vehicle that had the cream band painted out with black paint
when it got stolen?
I don’t think so it was HPT 135H (2 pedal Beaver) the truck was stolen and the load tipped at a dodgy steel stockholders it ran out of fuel before it could be disposed of and broke down outside of a cottage the woman ran the police after it had been standing there all day.

Somebody mentioned Woody Allen (Jimmy) on the Van Hee part of the post heres a pic of him at Gallachers with his FL which was originaly a Hodgson moter Im behind him with Blue Sure & Alfie behind me with his 500
He’s still baldy then!
Look North had a small bit about the accident with the Hodgson’s motor and Buck’s Fizz coach not so long ago, the kid who was badly injured (can’t remember his name now, wasn’t a fan) and Cheryl Baker came up to Newcastle and had a look around where the accident took place and talked about it, never mentioned the Hodgson’s driver once though, typical! Is it about Twenty years since it happened, might be more, memory hard drive broke ages ago! Franky.

Is the old steam tractor the one that lives in the corner of the old PRESTO store in birtley ?
or used to.
Brian
Think you are probbably thinking of the Foden steam bus John Bainbridge had.
Ian sure it was a tractor he used to run it up and down the car park some times when i was tipping at the back door of prestos
and it looked a lot like the one in the pic.
