Archie Paice:
I am just about to be thrown out of Brasil, apparently I’ve stayed here too many days and I can’t come back for a year. I was lucky too, I rang Steve Ward of Ward Bros in Middlesbrough and I start on weekends the second week in March.
Bit early to come back Mr Paice, still a bit chilly here yet
Does anybody remember a lad called Alan Cook who worked for Eric Short? Think he started up for himself but haven’t seen or heard of him for maybe 20 year

Hullo Andy,
Yes I agree, it’s far too early for me to go back to the UK yet, I was’nt intending to go back until May. These immigration laws all over the World it seems are going crazy. Still never mind eh ? hopefully there will be a nice warm motor for me to drive. Earn a few more bob then off to Oz and NZ for next Winter, calling into Brazil on the way home.
Cheers, Archie.

Here’s a pic I found of a Crusader taken at Witton Castle Truck Show sometime in the 80’s. Dunno who it belonged to but I think it could have been ex Jakey Adams. Was this one of the sleeper cab Crusaders that were parked in the back of the workshops for a long time while the trampers were all using day cabs? The Roadtrain next to it belonged to Robert Kelly from Wreckenton and there’s one of John Hoggs DAFs on the other side.

Hi Kevin.Worked both of them on containers in the 80’s, they both had Roadtrains, Tony’s had a 350 ■■■■■■■ in, big muscle for those days. Robbie did a bit of agency work when I was at Fergies but I heard he had a pub somewhere over Wrekenton.
Yeah Jimmy Owens, when the talk was of Normans recently I meant to put a tale up about him, he was driving for Cordon’s at the time and came into the cafe for his dinner, there was about six of us sitting talking having had our grub. The Tacho hadn’t been on the scene very long and the talk was about how you could or couldn’t fiddle it. Jimmy sat next to us with just a quick hello and tucked into his Mince dinner, of the usual Normans size. He was putting it away big style and the sweat was beginning to show on his brow as the rest of us chatted and occasionally glanced at Jimmy’s progress now and then (funny how you do that when someone is eating on his own). Eventually he pushed the empty plate to one side and pulled across his Pie and Custard sweet, we all seemed to stop and look towards him, he looked at the pudding for a second, wiped his arm across his brow and said “F…g Hell, I’ll have to put a new card in for this lot”! Timing was perfect, always guaranteed a laugh in Normans. Cheers Franky.

Jimmy was at the get-together at Newcastle Labour Club. He is a man I have great respect for, his disability never got him down and he never expected any favours because of it .Great bloke. regards kevmac47
This shot is for you ex Waugh drivers and shows how ONL 482M was left to rot by the WRM crew! I believe when it was disposed off they just put the jumper leads on her and she cracked up!!
Rob Kelly now works for the Co-operative RDC at Drum Est , Birtley. He and his wife used to run the Coach and Horses pub at wrekenton, not too long ago. He had a bit of a heart scare a few months ago, but he’s still driving Artics and Rigids.
He did mention that one of his customers went belly up without paying him, and therefore he himself went to the wall.
A good grafter but doesnt suffer fools gladly, and he has had many a run in with some lazy drivers at co-op, who don’t pull their weight!.
Wanted to say sick lame and lazy basta*ds Phil but as you know this new thing of being careful what you say as you will upset them the diversity and respect system what a load of ■■■■■■■■.Must be hard getting paid the same as us and having your own runor runs and finish early everyday!!Good job that has been ruined. The Co~Operative is nearly over Tues Wed i have a bank hol Thurs as well
