few more of ouseburn
Some more great pics ■■■■■, I presume that was Don’s motor with the bloody nose, was he smiling so much cos he got rid of it or was the happy face before it all went wrong! Maybe he was after a sleeper cab. I’m busy building a model of an Ouseburn Motor Panels cabbed Seddon, I’ll stick a pic or two up when its done.
Cheers Franky.

Apart from my dad, Bob Casey the only other 2 names i can remember from Archbolds were Kenny Hudd and Newton Tweddle. They were bloody high loads those cigarette filters, it was a long way to throw a rope for a 12 year olds arms. I have seen some Bells photos on here somewhere.Hi TYNEDAZ… did your father ever work at Fergusons ■■
Thought the name rattled some brain cells. Worked alongside him for a few years,I started not long after Clarks were bought out, we had some good times.
Hi Mickd1958,
Thanks for commenting about my dad, I was always interested in what he did, and probably that how my interest in trucks was born from an early age. Was 1990 the year that Grady Hall Finished?.I don’t know the name of the other signwriter, but i think he did work for millbay and bells trucks along with other companies.
Phil.
F7sidd,
Thanks for posting more pictures from Stanley, do you have any more, i remember you having a few pics of vehicles from inside the paintshop. When Bob Harold
moved up to Harelaw, Trevor Butler (my uncle) moved in and continued with the business, as my father finally retired in 1990.
No i’ve never been a fitter with Thompsons, After i left school , i went to work for Bob Harold at Harelaw, until 1988, when i left to start at York Thermostar just next door in the old Anthony Carrimore premises. I now work as a driver for the Co-operative at their Birtley RDC.
Cheers
Phil.

Hello again ddrbsn. He only worked there for 2 or 3 years he never stayed in the same job long always had itchy feet, I remember one night coming home on the bus past the back of Birtley services one night and seeing the blue lights of the fire brigade and Fergies motor up in flames, i had to get the bus driver to stop and run down the road to tell me dad that his motor was on fire. He said calm as anything divnt worry son the fire brigade will put it out, i will go up when this film finishes. It was lucky it was empty and it didn’t catch fire the night before because it had a full load of drums of white spirit on, and he was on a dodgy night out. He is 80 this year and is still getting around the country doing a bit of van work for me.

Hello again Phil. He probably painted the first brand new motor i ever bought in 1983, a little seven and a half ton MAN flatbed, it had D R Casey Light Haulage signwritten on it, it was a lovely piece of signwriting. On another note did you used to do some agency work for Brian McDonald.
PHILBUTLER:
Hi Tynexdaz,Yes he done work for Grady Hall, when they had their yard at Burnopfield, and then they moved down to birtley(where Chatfields) are now.(Late 70’s - early 80’s).I remember seeing him doing a Leyland Octopus 8 wheel tanker.I think in recent years another local signwriter who works for M.A.N has copied his style of lettering, as i’ve seen some of his work.
Cheers
Phil.
I used to work for Brian Olds plant transport at Birtley Truckstop. He is still around, we had a reunion a few months back.

Have we heard that Kent Connection have now closed there doors not sad to see the back of them but sorry to all the drivers that have lost there jobs hope they find other workSo we could add some of there motors on here if any about
I see Kent Connection are advertising for drivers on the job centre website, to do 4 on and 4 off. Was there more to their earlier closure than meets the eye? Maybe some of their ex-drivers would to post a comment.

I GOT THIS SCANIA WHEN DEREK BOUGHT IT AND SEAN ENDED UP DRIVING IT WHEN I GOT A NEW M.A.N 403
I would love to see any photos of Limmer and Trinidad tippers. Although not strictly a North east company, they had plants in St Peters, then moved to Blaydon Sand Quarry before being taken over by Tarmac in about 1972ish. My old man worked there for a number of years and I spent most of my Saturdays and summer holidays with him.
Also, would like to see some Murray Hogg motors too, as thats where I work now.
Anyone help?
