hi brothertonmick
the photos of grady halls yard bring back memories when i worked there
matty went on to drive for elddis then went to live in benidorm he is now back in this country living in south shields
my daughter is friends with his son who drives for kuhne nagel and she thinks matty is also driving for them
his brother billy also drove for gradys and i think his motor was the man eight wheeler tanker parked next to mattys f7
i remember recovering that f7 from hawes when matty ran into the back of another wagon and wrote the cab off

Your right Brian they did have a half cab Foden (Im,suprised you can even think that name never mind write it down you must be mellowing in your dotage). I often wondered what the driver did with his overnight bag in this motor. I’m sure Mark will pull a pic out of his magic hat.

IIRC they ran a few.Fred Robinson had them specially built as they only had the 6LW Gardner IIRC they used to run up and down to London on the A1.I think a firm from over our way bought one of them 2nd hand for shunting locally, they were pathetic running at 30/32 ton, like a snail crawling about. There was a write up on the F & F Robinson operation in a number of the trade papers in the late 60s early 70s all about these quirky motors with Foden Dump truck cabs!!! Bewick.PS no “cab hotelling” in those cabs!!!

They had the front windscreen the sloped inward from the top to which made them look even more different.

Found these grady hall pics along with a few more, which i will put on at some point. The guy that drove the F7 then the MAN was called matty nickname greyhound. Anyone remember or know what happened to him■■? 2

Is that where the DAF dealership is now?

Have we heard that Kent Connection have now closed there doors not sad to see the back of them but sorry to all the drivers that have lost there jobs hope they find other work

So we could add some of there motors on here if any about

Does anyone know if Gordon Mitchell ( from R Watson Transport) is still alive. I used to work with him at Scotswood Road,in the mid eighties, before he retired. A real nice bloke was Gordon.

hiya,
Anybody got any pics or memories of McPhees spent some time sitting behind those old eight leggers.
thanks harry long retired.

Harry,I backloaded off them back in 1968 out of Anglo Great Lakes on Scotswood Road for Tinsley Park, nice load of electrodes to get me home. Our gaffer played hell when I rang in “we’ll not get paid, they are a shower of robbing this and that, what a waste of time” and on and on and on.Anyroad we did get paid but McPhee was a no go area after that.
Bumper knows about them and I’ve seen some pics somewhere. They did some long trunks IIRC - Newcastle-Wolves and back when they had the Scanias.

If McPhee had a load out of AGL I would go to Gordon at Watsons trp, further along the quayside and get it through him. McPees manager rang my manager to complain about what I did, manager told them they trusted me to do right by them.

hi lads, sorry to hear about kent connection going down the Swanee,Kieth bracken,Kenny Yeats work for them a while back, think Kieth is retired now not sure about Kenny, took these last year at beal , bumper

these two were parked either side of the F7, jog any memories■■?
