Welcome Paul, had a chat with your dad on monday I’m pleased he enjoyed himself. Hope to see you with him next time. happy New Year to you all. Kevin

I’m sure it was your Dad’s 82 I got when I started back at VanHee second time, he got a new tauliner and this is a pic of the four first 82’s we had, you can see UCN 923Y in the line up, taken from the VanHee brochure they brought out. I also used to squeeze onto the narrow bed along side my lad when I had him on trips with me, he loved it when I got the Transcon so he had a bed to himself! Shame I missed him and Trev at the drink but hopefully I’ll catch him next time. I’ve added a couple of the motor I had at Fergusons, she wasn’t exactly a powerhouse but we got the job done and being naturally aspirated I was up and down the box like Fanny Craddock stirring a pudding, mind if I knew I was getting a FL7 after her I would have kept the old girl. Those Transcon pics are smashing from Bumper, I remember working on them (first time around) the Ford with the Eimco machine on the lowloader was Jimmy Gudrum’s, I had to reset the injectors every month or so as he said it wouldn’t pull your hat off, it had the E290 ■■■■■■■ in, the other one was Morris Potts and went like a train. Well Happy New Year to everyone, sorry I’m a little early but I suffer from Premature Congratulations! Cheers Franky. PS been trying to rack my brains thinking of the name of the lad at Blyth Docks, got on well with him and he was always willing to give a helping hand, some old Fergie lads must remember his name!
Welcome to the thread Fatbloke76, I worked with your old man at Van Hee’s in the mid 80’s, wasn’t he some relation to Trevor who used to run the Astwood Bank “Depot” in the back of Davis’ yard? The last time I was talking to him he was on for Simpson Brothers, is he still working there? Give him my regards when you see him.
Brilliant pic 240.Taken at the east end of the old warehouse.Raises more questions.Did you take the pic and do you have any of the Scanny and the little TK artic unit?
Do you know where the Atki is now?
No, I didn’t take the pic - I was given a print, and there are no marks on it to identify the photographer.
Here it is in later life:
Terry Godbold is famed for his other Borderer, HER 806N, which is now a 38 tonner with a 350 ■■■■■■■■ and which is still used commercially. He had a sleeper pod added to each Borderer by Longton Coachcraft of Leyland, with matching paint jobs. As far as I am aware, KSC was only ever a preservation project with Terry, not a working lorry, and I can’t now remember the condition in which he bought it.

Yes Ralph, that is the same Jimmy Hill that worked at Crows. Best wishes for the new year to you and Isobel. PS hows your leg now?
Whilst I was musing on this rather fine topic, it’s got me to wondering whether any of you guys could help my failing memory please…?
Do any of you remember a guy called Wor Bob?
IIRC, he was an O/D who ran a sky blue Scania (111 or 141■■) and did Spain in around 1982-3-4 ish when we used TIR carnets for Spain.
I saw him several times in the Barcelona TIR park, and at various places up and down the RN 10 in France.
Another firm I seem to recall from that era was Inter City Trucks ( maybe I’ve not got the name spot-on, ) but anyway the firm I’m on about had all red tractor units and trailers with white writing and I remember a happy time when I was weekended in Vienna.

Can anybody fill in the blanks for me please?
Only guy I can think of would be Bob Pearson known to most of us in the area as “fingers” due to the fact that he was short of the full issue. I think he is no longer with us. Regards, kevmac47.

Here are the pics I took at the get -togther at Newcastle Labour Club on the 27th Dec. 2010.
Hi kevmac47,
Many thanks for sharing those photos with us, cos it looks like you guys had a bloody good ‘do.’
You might not realise this right now, but this photo has to be rarer than a steam-driven F88.
thanks diesel dave
in the photo is my old pal jimmy hunter, mark fahy angela and (son of bacon neck) geordie
had a great day as i have not seen some of these lads for a few year, it was nice to see harry gill and put the face to the name,
thanks geordie foster for the buffet and jimmy hill for arranging it.

Hi Kev,
Many thanks for your answer.
I’d heard that the Bob I’ve got in mind is no longer with us, but I’m afraid that I never knew his surname.
I also couldn’t say anything about his fingers, or the lack of.
what I do remember is that (after a few of us had helped him change tyres/wheels on a step-frame tilt in Barcelona TIR park) I just had to ask Bob what the “Wor” meant on his Scania illuminated headboard.
I credit Bob with teaching me my first Geordie word, cos at that time I hadn’t a clue what “Wor” means.
well that’s it over for another year lads humbug, wor bob, first new him when he worked for jakey’s, sadly they found him dead in the cab of his motor in spain a while back, him and bag of nails was great friends (sammy swales) how many of you can remember sammy!! did m/e for van hee, nobody would run with him, had his food on the go, tin of cold bean or rice, after returning from one trip they found a dead scorpion in the cab, lads said it had died of starvation he also got done for speeding in Germany, police reckoned he was doing 90mph, them transcon where fly machines think it was big kris got caught doing 85 and got of with a bollocking , here is a few more photo from gorden mitchell collection, bumper
Cracking pics of Van Hee’s Transcons Jimmy. By the time I worked there they were well past their best. I remember one where the back windows had dropped out due to the cab being rotten so the fitters replaced them with sheet steel and bodge. We used to deliver Swaddlers nappies to Boots place in Nottingham and they had Transcons as shunters. Must have been the last ones made, “A” reg, only about 4 year old and mint, and there was us tramping in S and T reg bangers. No wonder we felt like poor relations!
happy newyear to everyone on here this is a bit addictive and the photos are great
hopefully i,ll try and upload some photos ,my dad says hello to frankydobo and everyone else ex van hee
unfortunately me dads had to pack in work due to a form of asbestosis
everybody all the best for the newyear!!!
here are some more photos i,ve dug out today some from my uncle trevors middle east trip and some from simpsons when we were still at throckley
cheers paul ,
The only other pic of a reeves truck i can find is of the bottom volvo f10 the reg was E820 i cant remember the last 3 digets most were SJO if i remember right it was jack kniefed into somthing. My dad was a driver then transport manager there in mid to late 90’s he brought them out of the red & into the black. Not long befor they decided to shut business they started changing from yellow to white units with silver trailers. & also started pulling for P&O, DFDS & Baylis distrobution. Gary Reeve was then diagnosed with a brain tumor & after the operation to remove it he sufferd from very bad short term memory loss which made my dads & Garys wife Ann Reeve job’s a whole lot harder in the office after having to repeat everything all day. Eventualy my dad & Ann decided to close the doors of Reeve Transport Services after the company bein offerd to my dad but after much thaught he decided to refuse the offer as pretty much all the units were shot to bits and the newest at the time bein a 5 year old M reg fl10 & the oldest bein an E reg f10. all of the trailers were weightlifters & all were no older than 5 years old. Garys way of thinking was “it doesnt matter what its pulled by, its what its pulled in”. Shame as it would have still bein going strong. Most of Reeves drivers ended up at L.D.S in seham as thats were my dad went next to be transport manager & the fitters George slater & rian ended up at seaham harbour docs (DPH) .
Does anyone remember R Wright transport from felling way? my dad & granda used to drive for him. they had quiet a nice fleet from f10’s to 142 & 143 scanias. They mainly did trunking into coalville & london.
Does anyone remember George Taylor they were mainly on grain tippers. My dad & granda also drove for him. most of the drivers from there got spread around going to allen w brown & i think it was georges brother taylor who has a very nice blue scania with fruhauf tipper still mainly on grain & a regular sight in tyne grain think the driver is called don.
My dads just gone back on the trucks & is driver transport manager for IOS i m not sure yet what trailer he is pulling but he will be driving a white Dawson rentals merc axor on a 60 plate trunking down to essex & back twice a week
Hello truckers boy, you will have a few of us old gits wondering who your dad is come on own up!!! Last I heard of Ritchie Wright he was still running one vehicle but that was about a year ago. I know he is a year or two older than me so he may have retired now. Hope that helps regards kevmac47. PS. 80 weeks to go!!!
