Ah great pics of the old MAN Dave, G105 TNL, I have a couple of photo’s I’ll dig out for you and post. I remember I done a similar job for Bowes Railway Museum, I was there all day drinking tea and chatting with the old railway lads. Fergies seemed to do a lot of those jobs and all for charity. You were right about those MAN’s though, I drove yours, Bob’s and Albert’s when you took your holiday’s, then I had to go back onto my old Merc, still she was a tryer. Remember what a sod that old low loader could be sometimes! Cheers Franky.

Heard an old name today when chatting at work, Outred and Harrison, don’t know if anyone has mentioned them or driven for them.

Martin Hutchison drove this drawbar while i was there then he went onto the artics

Mickey Fisher had also turned this wagon over with a full load of steel on

Hi Franky …yes that tr could be a beast at times. The engine was very temperamental and a hammer had to be kept handy for the hydraulic pins. Had many a day at Bowes and your right all done for free, no matter how long the job took. Often wondered if Bob got free trips for him and family. That unit was brill, its backend lowered that far I could pick up trs dropped on their knees with ease…Dave

There’s a model of that MAN outfit in the “naughty boys room” at Fergy’s which Albert Kelly told me was made by some one at the Bowes Railway as a thank you for services rendered. I couldn’t see love jobs like that being done now. When I was there they would lend you a pick up or a van sometimes even a 4 wheeler, but all that’s stopped now.

f7sid have you any info or pics of Geordie Bamborough’s from Chester le Street used to run tippers. I believe they ended up running out of Portobello Ind. Est. but used to be based under the viaduct at Cheater years ago. I had a cousin called Raymond Hodgson worked as a fitter for them, believe he commited suicide, or so I was told.

A few random photos which I have just sorted out.

Iain here is a picture of TC’s old Merc when at Albany, by coincidence I worked at a small place on Portobello and they had a Red 1418 I drove, I called into Vanhee’s one day when near by and saw Tommy and he said it was the very same wagon, he was as surprised as I was. As you can see he has the kids in the cab, I got this from Bumper.

Dave, here’s the model I built of your MAN, it isn’t the one mentioned above, I built the old King trailer too just haven’t got a pic handy to put on, never got around to doing the Crane for a load but will one day, I plan to refurb it a little, signwriting etc as its a bit long in the tooth now, still sitting on my shelf but gathering dust.

The last pic is of the NEWER lowloader in Rolls Royce with that bloody awful FL7.

Cheers Franky.
