Hi again all, i asked a couple of weeks ago if anyone had any photos of my grandads old gold f88 volvo, with donald ireland on the side. if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks,
Keep watching Marky,ERF64CU was showing me a pic just today of the “88” which he is going to post. regards kevmac47.
thanks very much
Mark hope this is what you have been wanting. the photo was take on the Team Valley in the late 70’s when the lorry driver of the year used to be held there. I can remember the 88 but without its ‘drag’ being in the same class as my dads Scammell Routeman.
Although this is for old north east hauliers many big name firms run there own transport operations. No one has mentioned any of them yet! Here is one to set the ball rolling. One of the first organisations on the Team Valley when it was first built,Armstrong Cork.
Running vehicles from Leyland Comets,Albion Clydesdales/Reivers,Scammell Handymans/Crusaders,Volvo F86/88’s,Mag deutz,ERF B series and Seddon Atkinson.
Ok was thinking ablout calling in on mon to meet some of you but being female & walking in when I dont know any of you personally & I feel slightly out of my depth just reading this thread never mind posting on it or anything else so will have to get some dutch courage from somewhere also I dont have a CIU card now

hiya,
Just returned home from a very pleasant afternoon/early evening at the Labour Club in Newcastle, great bunch of lads and was made to feel very welcome, thanks guys.
thanks harry long retired.
Hi Kevmac 47 I don’t remember John Perne from Dixons but I only worked there for about 6 months up until Ray Dixon shut the gates but heard his name mentioned a few times. Some names from my time there include Jacky Harrison, Eddie Failes and Fred Porter who both went to Murray Hogg’s, Maurice Price, Terry Stoddart now at Fergies, Billy Fox the fitter who worked for Davidson & Adamson and Glendinning’s,Terry Whiteand old Tommy Touerns.
I recognise the name Derek Scullion from Fergies but can’t put a face to it. It was like that with most of the trampers, doing nightshift change-overs most of them were away to sleep by the time we got down with their trailers. If he was a “Waughy Driver” he might just get a pat on the back when he retires but that’ll be all. Some of Waughy’s drivers who came to Washington were Gary Waterfall, John Latham, Jim Arkle, Alan Sanderson (since sacked) Dave Clemence and a kid called “Dangerous” who caused more damage than everybody else put together (he’s still there). Do these names ring any bells?
By the way I couldn’t make it on the 27th, does anybody have any pics. I worked on the containers with Big Kris and Jimmy Jarvis when they were owner-drivers along with Drew Wood and Ritchie Wright and I was at Van Hee’s with Bumper.
Sorry you didnt make it as it was a good afternoon
I know Alan Sanderson he did work for Waughy then he did make the move to Fergy I had heard he "left "
Kevmac47 took some pics not sure if anyone else did
But many thanks to all as I was made to feel more than welcome had a very pleasant afternoon

Here are the pics I took at the get -togther at Newcastle Labour Club on the 27th Dec. 2010. I took them with my phone so the quality isn’t so good and a few didn’t come out at all.It really was a great afternoon. All credit to Jimmy Hill and Geordie Foster for the work they put in. What started out as a Van Hee re-union is now turning into a good day out for any firms drivers to attend. thanks lads Ps Harry (long retired) sorry that your 8lxb bathchair didn’t get its service. kevmac47
