After selling all but one of the fleet in 1988 drove a six wheeler for myself until 92 then packed it in altogether. Drove a desk for the next 17 years or so ( on of the big banks then the civil service ) Retired a couple of years ago. My Father, pictured with me in a couple of the previous photos, died at the end May this year one day after his 90th Birthday.

Waughy’s always seemed like a good firm to work for in the 70’s and 80’s with drivers staying with them for years. I remember Davey aka Fat 1, now working for Simpsons, in a 1418. What went wrong that Fergusons ended up buying them out. Dare I chuck the name Arkle into the discussion
I left Waughs in 1983 after 11years when it was still a a good job so i’m not best qualified to answer the question but i think you’ve probably done so yourself.

I remember Walkers Century Oils used to be down Spelter Works Road round the back of Domtar paper mills.Last time I was down there the buildings were still there but derelict. The area is being re-developed and the paper mill has been demolished so maybe Walkers has gone too.
Glynn Owen worked with me at Fergusons a few year ago for about six months but left after getting messed about on the nightshift, last I heard he was driving for a parcel outfit in Gateshead. I see him now and again at car shows as he is into Ford ■■■■■■ RS2000’.s Here’s a picture of him at Fergies, he’s the one sitting down in the hi-vis.
thanks for the reply bri, remember me to glyn when you see him, i knew his dad better, tell him its chris hgv driver, used to sit with his dad in milton club, take care.

When I worked at Clark’s we used to load manhole covers and drain grids out of Jennings for all over the country. It was a right awkward place to get into, backing in off the main road or reversing down that back lane opposite the old dole office in Borough Road. I don’t know if Jennings is still there, it’s a while since I’ve been down that way. Camrex Paints used to have a place at the back of Jennings but that closed down a long time ago

From what I remember it wasn’t a very big depot maybe half a dozen motors at best. From what I remember it was a good paying job so there was next to no chance of getting set on as nobody was inclined to leave.
this bloke used to do containers out of port of tyne think he was called trevor farrah any one remember him, then he went to to continental work for someone he belonged gateshead area.this was about 96-97
