After selling all but one of the fleet in 1988 drove a six wheeler for myself until 92 then packed it in altogether. Drove a desk for the next 17 years or so ( on of the big banks then the civil service ) Retired a couple of years ago. My Father, pictured with me in a couple of the previous photos, died at the end May this year one day after his 90th Birthday.

Has anyone seen that fantastic painting depicting two of Wardsâ old Fodens climbing through Wolsingham Market place? Canât recall where I saw it or who the artist was either
While Iâm here, can somebody clear up a long-running argument with my missus (whoâs one of you lot!) as to how Waugh is pronounced; WOFF or WORR basically, it starts off again every time we pass one of theirs on the A1!

Ian Forrest (GOD) Iâm sure this man could walk on water as he performed a new miracle every day at waughs
i think your right about being a fitter at Alfie Ellis , when he came to waughs he came from the Newcastle breweries
if i remember.
Sorry Brian, Ian FORREST, minds going, I knew a lad in the army called Ian Walker and thought it wasnât right when I wrote it, your right though cracking lad. There was about four of us crammed into an ERF of Ellisâs one day (canât remember where the hell we were going) Ian was driving and done a little tap dance between each gear change, had us all in stitches, I donât think anybody took anything serious then. As for Waughâs correct pronounciation, I always thought it was âWoffiesâ and JR Adams was âJakyâsâ, Shorties, Fergies and many others whoâs names we âGeordiefyâ. Cheers Franky.

HJR 451L Stevie Golding getting ready for the off ,note the light blue smoke from the
exhaust, was better than a temp gauge to tell when it was warmed up enough.
PTY 334M with a load of angle steel from Jarrow steel mill i think, didnât bring that many
loaded trailer down from the Consett plate mill just roped and sheeted them and left them for the
distance drivers to pick up.

You are not allowed to put Arse,Face, and "Geordie"inthe same sentence!!!
Waughyâs always seemed like a good firm to work for in the 70âs and 80âs with drivers staying with them for years. I remember Davey aka Fat 1, now working for Simpsons, in a 1418. What went wrong that Fergusons ended up buying them out. Dare I chuck the name Arkle into the discussion
