My old mentor Ian Walker was Foreman at Waugh’s I believe, he was one of the fitters at Alfie Ellis when I started my apprenticeship, smashing bloke and knew his stuff, there was also Billy Luntley who was gaffer at Fergusons later on. Ian Forrest (GOD) I’m sure this man could walk on water as he performed a new miracle every day at waughs
i think your right about being a fitter at Alfie Ellis , when he came to waughs he came from the Newcastle breweries
if i remember.
Billy Luntley was mental wonder if that why i got on so good with him : mind Ian was just as bad had a great sense of humor had to have to put up with the daft things we used to get up to.lol:
Billy came to work in the garage for a bit then he went driving for waughs to.
Plenty of laughs through the years in the workshop and down the road by all the guys that came and went.

has anyone any pics of TT walkers of newburn and holmes coal wagons that ran out of blaydon
cheers lads keep up the good posts

Has anyone seen that fantastic painting depicting two of Wards’ old Fodens climbing through Wolsingham Market place? Can’t recall where I saw it or who the artist was either

While I’m here, can somebody clear up a long-running argument with my missus (who’s one of you lot!) as to how Waugh is pronounced; WOFF or WORR basically, it starts off again every time we pass one of theirs on the A1!
