hiya,
Asked you a question a while back Greek about Collinson’s depot, was it an old church or a school haven’t been to Chopwell for a while but remember seeing the motors in the doorway when passing used to pick drums up next to the hotel something to do with anti-skid surfaces at airports.
thanks harry long retired.
hello greek
aye they kept dad on , think the job still much the same, they got a few newish trucks their, think they must be seeing how it goes first, they are at washington now, ropers caravans old depot, old ronnie still plodding on he spends a lot of time in spain now since he sold his share to lubbers, but tony his son is still the director for newcastle aberdeen and yarmouth, but lubbers have a big stake in the company they got involved when i left, its an offshore company i work for kenny in aberdeen doing this subsea gear with underwater robots all over world, they charter these offshore construction vessels , bumpers son works for them aswell, will sort them photos out when i get over stans but it will be like trying to get blood out of a stone because he is still a tight git and he will probably try and charge me for them.
cheers
mark

night shift bri:
There seem to be threads for every part of the country except the north east, so howzabout setting one off. Theres plenty to go at and a few have been mentioned elsewhere such as Cawthornes, VanHee,Clarks, but what about Murray Hoggs, Jakey Adams, Fergusons of Blyth, Bells of Ashington, T T Walkers, Elddis, and what about a mention for Norman’s cafe at Brotherton a favourite watering hole for scores of North East lads.
I have had a few good meals in Normans wonder what is there now.?

Here’s some adverts from a 1966 copy of the Headlight magazine that will bring back memories. Most of us will have visited some of these establishments in the days when drivers used to socialise with each other on a night in the days before Pot Noodles and Lap Tops. Driving all day in “luxurious” cabs like the Guy Big J, you were pleased to get out.
