the model was one i drove , i worked for MTL for a while doing the heavy stuff i was based down in RTH,s yard it was a real good job, but i missed my time off, so went back offshore. V8 MTL was driven by a lad called brian gilbert who is in the photo. he has sold all the scanias now apart from the old 143 he bought 680 M.A.N,s but he has just sold most of the fleet to mckintosh plant in aberdeen. brian back at jaky,s and alan still at freeway

Harry,I backloaded off them back in 1968 out of Anglo Great Lakes on Scotswood Road for Tinsley Park, nice load of electrodes to get me home. Our gaffer played hell when I rang in “we’ll not get paid, they are a shower of robbing this and that, what a waste of time” and on and on and on.Anyroad we did get paid but McPhee was a no go area after that.
Bumper knows about them and I’ve seen some pics somewhere. They did some long trunks IIRC - Newcastle-Wolves and back when they had the Scanias.

If McPhee had a load out of AGL I would go to Gordon at Watsons trp, further along the quayside and get it through him. McPees manager rang my manager to complain about what I did, manager told them they trusted me to do right by them.

hiya,
Thanks for that Bumper was talikng to George a few weeks ago and he said that he thought they was finished, but at that time he was’nt sure, was they in some sort of takeover or something, a few local firms were involved all taken over then the doors closed is what he thought at that time, what a shame there would have been quite a few drivers involved and in this part of the world it’s something we can do without at this moment in time, i’m just pleased i’m well out of it the pension isn’t much but i get by and don’t have to trail round the doors looking for a job and pay silly money to keep the HGV licence up to date, not a good time.
thanks harry long retired.

Bumper, its time you reminded all of us senile Tr-uckers about the time and venue of the next get together.

PS.Do you think Harry Long Retired’s electric bath chair could make it cos i’m sure lots of us would like to meet
or be re-aquainted with him.

hi kevin
think the next bash is at newcastle labour club on the 27th i was talking to jimmy hill couple of weeks ago, i am trying to get me old man to go but he still cant find his wallet, you know what stan is like, he was asking what you are doing now
