Fdew shots of the Old Fire Station in Sunderland.
Tyneside

Few more from the area Tyneside

Thanks for the Thompson’s photos DEANB that brought back some memories. That Foden FTY653L and its sister FTY652L along with another Foden GBB20N(iirc) were sold to Alan Davidson where I spent many a Saturday in mainly 652 with Dad.

Some good old photo’s again Tyneside, the old Sunderland Fire Station is now a pub with the top floor as a sort of Fire Service museum, which I’ve yet to visit. The CU reg of the buses are South Shields from Nov 1957 to Dec 1959, the pic looks late 50’s. The last photo of the 60’s Bus Stop brings back memories of getting the late bus back to Longbenton on a Friday night or on a Saturday morning after a look around the toon in the clothes and record shops, happy days. Franky.

The cab was still in canny nick too, Regards Larry.

The alloy body was a Wellford which IIRC Was a Co Durham company that made them, I will ask David Lowdon if he can shed any light on this.Regards, Larry.

According to t’internet Welford Bodies was a Stoke-on-Trent firm that was taken over as a management buy-out and became Don-Bur (Bodies and Trailers) Ltd. More information at A Brief History Of Don-Bur. Is that the same company?

Hiya,
Converted myself from eight legger and drawbar to artic driver in a rig like this,
I think I only needed a couple of shunts I took the same motor to London the
same day, I reckon converting from artic to wag n’ drag would’ve needed more
time I went to work for BRS a bit later where I drove whatever was left.
