That could be Justin Snowdon’s motor

An early picture here of road works on the Great North Rd. No markings on the Big Bedford so not sure if its a Council motor or not, those road rollers look brand new though! Franky.

Larry did the Quayside Café on Broad Chare have another name not sure if I’m thinking of somewhere else and can you recall the name of the small café under the Swing Bridge. I’ve seen a short silent video tonight about Paddy’s Market and you would be interested in the background view of Baxters doorway and a quick view behind market customers of Smiles for Miles, it was on the chroniclelive.co.uk/history site see if you can look it up. Cheers Franky.

Hi Franky, The Quayside Café was also refered to as Geordie Dunns, Or Dunnies Golden Frying Pan, He was renowned for his Fried Spam , Sausage Meat & Egg sarnies all fried it the same pan, It was only after he died & his son George took over did bacon sarnies appear, The only Café I remember was next to the Sansania Cold Store, Owned by a driver that used to drive for Curry,s I cant think of his name at present , Perhaps someone on here might, It was a wooden building IIRC,Opposite The Cooperage, Regards Larry.

Cheers Larry I knew it was known by something else but would never have remembered, here’s another good pic of it below it looks slightly care worn eh! Your right about the Swing Bridge café too Larry it was the wooden one. Thanks to Postal for putting that link up, did you give it a look Larry, I remember the Baxters doorway well, happy days Franky.

Thank to Alan for sharing.

Hi Franky, I remember the Baxters doorway on the Quay plus the collier Hudson Bay owned by the Hudson Steanship Co which was a regular visitor to Blyth and a ship I have been aboard to or three times as a boy when staying in Blyth and going around with J.W. Colpitts staff attending to various ship repairs. No H&S in those days.
Cheers, Leyland 600.

Hiya,
Had many a breakfast in the St Lawrence Cafe in years gone by, also many a
“killing time” afternoon cuppa anybody got any idea when it closed it’s doors
also in days gone by and I’m talking late 50s early 60s before I came to live
in the North East and having delivered my load somewhere around the area
there was a guy that got into the cafe who did return loads sort of used the
place as his office I used his services a few times usually waste paper out of
Jebbs, the rate must have been OK I was never told not to load off him.
thanks harry, long retired.

Nice pics from Oily and Larry, not sure when ‘Jimmy’s’ St Lawrence café closed Harry but I think the last time I was in there would have been the late 80’s early 90’s, I’m sure someone on here will know. This must be the old café at the bridge Larry it has no name on it to give a clue. Cheers Franky.

Lawrence, that Atkinson of Brian Pattersons looks like an ex Hansons of Newmillerdam, Wakefield always a source of good Atki 8 wheel tippers sold through Comberhill Motors of Wakefield. Looks like it is YHL registered thus majking my assumption fairly certain.
Cheers, Leyland 600

Hi Leyland 600, Sorry to dissapoint you, The Reg is 130 VHL,Purchased brand new in 1959/60, By Brian, It had a 150 Gardner in, But he went on to fit the 180 when he started pulling the trailer, He ran it well into the late 70s, & replaced it with a Foden 28 Tonner, He already had a Foden the I sold him in 1976 a 24 Tonner, Regards Larry.
