Hi Larry i wonder what the old,ns would say about the new wagon,s of today eh. No brakes, heaters, air con or power steering. In their day it was hard graft, sleep on the bonnet and suit case. Then do your repairs and service on top of a weeks work.regards servo88
Heres some at Isaacs Wallbottle Garage, Its long gone and house,s stand there now, Regards Larry.
Hi servo 88
Here’s a few I have found of Wards steam engine don’t know who the gentleman standing in front is it could be one of the Wards but hopefully you might shed some light on it.There’s also a couple of newlandside quarry and one taken from the office looking into the yard. regards prattman
Hi Prattman, Last time i saw that steam engine would be 48 year,s ago, great photo,s. I think that could be John Barkers who worked in the Mart Yard office, but could be wrong. He left when Slaters took over and went to Blue Circle Cement at East Gate , a lot of the drivers went there then. The photo of the weighbridge at Newlandside that you put on previous, well that was Charlie Wright getting into the Foden, the Bedford could have been Brian Emmerson and the driver of the leyland was Richmond, carn,t think of his first name. regards servo88
FHT has some nice motors but i.m not a fan of all the different colours on them, he must spend a fortune on bling so why not paint them all the same colour to start with
Here’s some I took of Frankie Hudsons at various truck shows around the north dating back to 1996 through to roughly 2002 I have also posted a shot of one of his first wagons when he worked out of the asbestos factory at Bowburn
Hi prattman, i knew Frank them days when he first set away, him and Dave Wilson were thick as thieves. Who took the photo,s of Newlandside ? seeing them reminded me of Jim Hemingway . He worked in the crushing plant and his nickname was the the RAT as he used to tell tales and drop everyone in. Another one, i was in the back holding the hopper open loading 2inch stone for Consett didnt lift my leg out so ended up pulling my foot out of wellington then got it back when tipped. I,m up at Eyemouth at the moment, so got plenty of Scotish motors and others. So will have to put them on another thread as they,r not from the North East, which one do you suggest? regards servo88

Hi Kenny
Thanks for that info, I did not know him that well I had been to his yard a few times and had seen him at Witton Castle Truck Show and had taken a few photo’s for him and I lost touch a few years later, am I right in believing he has two sons who are into transport. R.I.P Tony.regards Gary.
