hiya,
The very first motor I drove as a civilian driver in 1957 was a 1939 Maudslay Mikado eight wheeler pulling a trailer it looked from memory very similar is the pic in question but the one I drove was possibly re-shedded and certainly had a new engine at some time, i feel sure it had been hand cranked originally didn’t have to take it very far thankfully ideal motor for a refresher course as I hadn’t driven for a year had to go back in the pit until I was twenty one, for the first few days I wished I had stayed below ground,it was hard work for a “learner” good job a trailer boy was compulsory in those far off days to show me how to go on with the loading and roping and sheeting well you had to start somewhere.

hello v 7 victor i dont know you but you where on about teeside carriers those drivers used to stop at mossley in the sixtees when iworked for steenbergs that photo of o and bs maudsley has i think been restord by the shepherd group the only driver i can think of from teeside carriers was big bill he used to drive for bulmers the eight wheeler that was a crane body
Seing the Photo of Brunskills reminded me that my father was a friend of a guy called Bill Taylor who used to own Brunskills, along with other haulage interests in the late sixties and seventies, he sold everything and lived in Jersey where he owned the “Royal Yacht Hotel” and also another big hotel called “Les Arches” he was loaded ! spent lots of time there he always wanted my father to sell up and move over there. Regards to all Peter,

hiya,
Those Mandator’s was something else, have done many a mile in one of them, but the Mercury’s of the same era were prone to blowing head gaskets and injector pipes when in my hands or did I jut drive them a bit too hard, there was always one or more in the BRS workshops and not even me could drive two at the same time, the regular Mercury drivers did complain about them.
