There was also Joe Young, Big Mick (beefeater),and Terry ? can’t remember his surname but he’s worked at
Paul Rea’s for a lot of years now. Regards Kev.
Has anyone got any photos of Orrel & Brewsters wagons they had a mixed fleet, but mostley AECs, I would be nice to see themon the thread, Regards Larry.
risgby, chris rea is related to nicol rea family, they had the ice cream/cafes on condercum rd,rye hill, also in grainger market, don’t know about rea haulage, jimmy you mentioned jackie phillips, work with jackie at brownlee’s great guy to work with, first guy i ever seen nailed sheets to the load was jackie bumper
Aye Bumper, Reas also had a cafe come ice cream parlour in Ponteland on the main Rd. It was their daughter who ran it for years, sadley it is now closed & up for sale. Regards Larry
When I was a kid in Longbenton Rea’s Ice Cream van stopped opposite our house everynight and we usually had a Threepenny bit each to spend when my Mother could afford it, I’m sure they were related to the Middlesboro Rea’s that Chris Rea decended from, also my Brother recalls him on a radio interview mentioning his family were big in Ice Cream in the Northeast and he worked in his Fathers shop when younger. Although his name is always pronounced Ree-a, we knew them as Rea’s as in ‘Rays’. All of Italian decent, Manchester also had a large Rea Ice Cream business family with connections to the Middlesboro family. After all that I’m not sure Paul Rea is related but its possible somewhere along the line. I’m off for a Ninety-Nine now while listening to Road to Hell, cheers Franky.

Regards Larry.
Hi Larry Geo Smart of S&C bought our Dennis Centaur DCN 447 four wheeler.

crowbar i remember smart and cardella down by the cattle market beside reggie hunters and les eagletons because i was brought up on scotswood road and remember jacky eckhert that used to work at scotswood service station that used to work for uncle john
Hi Jimmy Yes we had Scotswood filling station it sold FINA petrol , and uncle John put George Eckert in to run it and l worked there for some time before going back to Abbots Rd . The other fitter there was Ray Nicholson who’s farther drove the crane for D Sep BOWRAN’S in Gateshead.
Jacky Eckert worked for Crow’s Gateshead from the 1950’s then to Crow’s Meadowfield until he retired.
Sadly both gone now Regards crowbar

Nice one, I have seen this before in one of my wagon books, I wonder if that is Fred Hillier the traffic manager ?. O&Bs were at the top of Byker Bank in the thirties, when they moved over to Hawks Rd, Im sure J.W.Capstaff had it before they moved over to the valley. I new both Tommy Orrell as well as old Jonnie Brewster, To canny blokes. Regards Larry
