Evening all, rough old day, got a good kick off one of the Hosses, by gum it do arf urt! Wonder if anyone remembers Benson Transport at Ashington? Off to get some lotion. Cheerio for now.

Aye Bensons green wagons, they also had two Dodge 6 wheeler tippers 1968, Worked out of Monkton Tar Plant, I belive they also owned B D C, Coaches. I was told the haulage side changed its name to Minkrun.■■ Regards Larry.

dug some of my older ones out and most of them where given to me off ronnie, he has give me loads to scan, not sure about ted will ask ron when i go over, them lorries all made their money and the merc pick- up covered some miles abroad aswell.

Geordie Hogg…theres a blast from the past any one know how he is these days…This was not Geordies Bison as it was the second one in the fleet. Bought brand new with only 10 years on the clock ha ha :stuck_out_tongue:

sorry never seen geordie hogg for a long time .heres a couple more ex brian old lads that i know nev who has the sandwich van to b.q now and robbie not sure last name worked with him at new county and phil gent worked with him at north east concrete he,s now at burrells. all nice people though.

Phil Gent, I’m sure I worked with him at Topmix Hazelrigg Plant, Colin Wilsons pal?

Still see Phil Gent now and again. Thats right kev he had a mini mix for a good few years but packed in and now works for Burrells. Robbie Raine also worked for B olds along with Neville Dodd. Micky Murphy (Green Pea) used to drive the green volvo f88 and Phil used to drive the Daf 95. Tommy Ford was another name who I have not seen in years. Brian Gray now works for New County and I am still at the Tunnel looking out for all the old time drivers. And How could I forget Bowserman who was a bad influence and forced me to drink beer and sleep in when we were doon the road… :smiley: :smiley: :smiley:

Mark did the 1850 Merc :sunglasses: get serviced at Coopers of Anitsford back then i can remember seeing
one quite regularly at the time, as not that many of the beasts about, great motor and great pics. :slight_smile:

Last I heard Robbie was driving a RORO skip wagon. I have not seen him for over 10 years now but I bet he is still working hard as usual.

I mentioned a firm back there, Smart & Cardella, does any one rememeber them ? their yard was next to the old Cattle Market on Scotswood Rd, Geo.Smart is still about, Im going to try & get in touch, he might have some old photos, but if anyone has any it would be nice to see them on here. When I worked for Jonny Baxter on the Quay Geo had an office in the Baltic Chambers, he was allways good for some work, he also had loads back from Liverpool, & London, it was mostley imported doggy meal, it used to go Edgar Robinsons, EPRO PRODUCTS, Eldon Lane, Newcastlthen they had a place at Byker. Hi Larry Geo Smart of S&C bought our Dennis Centaur DCN 447 four wheeler.
I was taking to on the phone about 2years ago and he seemed ok.

crowbar i remember smart and cardella down by the cattle market beside reggie hunters and les eagletons because i was brought up on scotswood road and remember jacky eckhert that used to work at scotswood service station that used to work for uncle john

Aye I remember Gypsy Joe, plus the Blackburn Bros, were there too, there was one of their long term drivers long after they finished still working at KCs, He was at the end where I used to deliver the bales of pulp from Bootle, I cant remember his name.that was in the 90s. Regards Larry.

Any of you lads remember these, The Tony Hanlon Days, I wonder if this system is still operational ? I had to go in front of him at a public enquiery when I applied for my O Licence, at one point I thought I had commited a murder, He was definatley against the haulier, but I must say it was an education to me, of what I was getting into, I never had any doubts of course, haulage was in my blood & still is. . Yes I can remember we used to get them, must have had a subscription as they used to arrive on a regular basis, you are right John Hanlon used to rule with an iron fist.
They sill have A & Ds you can view them on the VOSA site for Free.
