A pioneer to the haulage industry Dennis, Where would we have been to-day without the likes of him & many others Eh, I think my old Grandad & my great uncles would have a fit if they were to come back & see it as it is now, Long live our mems of our great ancestors that made you & I what we are to-day plus a lot more who can look back on how what haulage is now & how it was atchieved, Regards Larry.

The driver’s nickname was “Skippy”,one of our younger drivers at the time but a 'Gud’un never-the-less ! Cheers Dennis.

This is a shot of “Skippy” just about to leave the depot on a Sunday at noon,he is driving an Iveco demo which,IIRC,we ran for about 6 months,he is loaded with 24 tons of Libby Orange “C” from the factory next to the depot and more than likely will be destined for the Libby RDC in Edmonton.

Is he back yet Dennis.    What did he do to deserve that amount of punishment ?

Aye,I think he just got back to’day Bri !  our lads didn’t mind a shot on any of the demos that passed through the fleet from time to time, maybe their own motors were in dock/MOT etc. or they were in between their last one and a new one, and, with the likes of an Iveco they knew fine well that we wouldn’t be buying any so it was just a case of “seeing” and trying out what a lot of other drivers had to put up with eh!!  Dennis.

Hi, re: W A Glndinning Ltd
names that come to mind: Ken Robo,Bob Englsh,Ed Brown,Gordon Pullman,Dave Richardson, Bob Parker,
Bruce Lamb,Wilf Wilson,Brian Hubbard,Dave Emanuel…
What happened to the Scammell Crusader Reg PCX310M, still being used in the mid 90’s for taking trailers
for test?

Apart from Flapper, there all retired now. Robbo and Bob E moved to Spain, Bob may be back now, not sure. Last time I spoke to Gordon Pullman he was planning on upping sticks and moving to Thailand!
Any other Shotley drivers we have not mentioned?

Hi,Just an update on Denis Burnett, he is indeed living in Southampton and driving an 18t Iveco Beavertail with a trailer for about the last 7 years for SHB Hire Ltd, I’m his transport manager, he can be testing at times but I have the utmost respect for him, where he gets his energy from is an enigma and is still a workaholic.

The Round Tower is on Yesterday Channel at the moment, I wonder if Ralph Crow gets royalties for the repeats■■? :imp: :imp: :imp:. His motors look as good as ever. regards Kev.
