Like you Larry, I have great memories of Stephensons at Bishop, I went there as a very young man in the late sixties/early seventies when I worked for Miles Druce Metals, with steel for their workshop. They had a lot of ex military gear, mobile cranes, dumpers, draglines etc, I seem to remember a low bridge in the vicinity that we had to take into account if we were carrying long beams over the cab. Regards Kev.

Can you not get Meggsy to come along with you, I will cerntailey buy him a drink or two, He was a great long distance driver in his day, & a credit to the late Fred Smiles who learnt a lot from Bobby about how to get return loads, Of course Fred never got his hands dirty in the haulage game, But I will say he wasnt shy at putting the in his wallet & getting the drinks in, In the Newcastle Arms in those good old days working at Smilers, Im sure Bobby will agree with me on that point, Give him my regards when you see him, Regards Larry.
Hi Larry, I’m afraid Bobby’s mobility is poor nowadays and unfortunately cannot manage stairs, so it’s a no-no for the get together.
If it’s a fine day, he comes down in the lift and outside for some fresh air, but i will pass on your good wishes.
Mick
hi,the last time i spoke to booby meggs would be about 10 years a go, i was walking over the tyne bridge to gateshead ,bobby was coming the other way, stop for a chat asked if he had finally pack the driving in, his reply was that the outfit he was working for had just finished him as things had gone quiet,so he was on his way to the union office to see if he could take them to a tribunal for wrongful dismissal,um
