Hiya Vic, did’nt know you were a stock car fan, from the 70’s until it closed I was at Aycliffe whenever possible, same with Hartlepool from the 80’s, got to a world final at the Odsall, on the fuel my favourite drop was Sam Ostle, always keen to talk about the stock cars and a pure gentleman to deal with. I was hoping to drive a formula 2 in the 80’s but my ‘sponsor’ changed his mind! Regards, Mizzo.

Aye Les,my first meeting was Aycliffe in 1958 and i went till about 64,then other things took over you know drink and the fairer ■■■!!.started to go again about 75,i visited a lot of tracks inc H,pool-Odsall-Coventry-Skegy and a few others.Yea old Sam you always got a good bit of crack with him.One off my son v7robbie on T.N. Hi Larry can you remember who lost the load of spratts on the tyne bridge, if i remember right think it
was Bill (crazzy) luntley but not sure? when he was an owner/driver with Fred jones old 8 wheel mk1 Atkinson.

It may have been him, but the only one I can recall was one of Andersons from Westerhope, Luntley didnt do very many loads, Well not when I was on the Fish Job, Nor did Jonesy, He once criticised my old Foden, which was totally uncalled for He said it was too old for the job being an E reg, So I replied to him that it wasnt as old as him so what was his ■■■■■■ problem, no comment at all, Regards Larry.

Hi Larry,

Talking about fish job.

Years ago my mother and father met old Mr Ferguson and his wife at a British Association of Removers dinner Dance.

They had a good laugh as a few days earier Mr Ferguson said that he and his wife had been down at a roundabout. (It may have been Scots Corner), reloading one of their wagons that had dropped a load of fish as it slid off the wagon as it went round the roundabout. He was complaning as how difficult it had been to get rid of the smell of the fish.

I think they were comparing notes as only a week or two earlier we were all out tryng to reload a 40ft tautliner trailer that had turned over at the Eden Arms roundabout and spilt quite a lot of its load of Fisher Price Toys, but at least they had no smell

Dad got on very well with him as they had much in common, growing up in haulage and removals, during the same years.

hiya,
You’ll not baffle us lads with bottom shelf muck if I could spell it I would say
we are definitely connoisseurs you’ll spot that when you see we’re all legless.
thanks harry, long retired.

IIRC “H” it was the long establisssshed hic! custom that at the end of another hard year in the days of Yore !( Waggon and trailers!) the mates got a “free do” from their drivers,so seeing as I may be the only “mate” present I think the “well established practice” should be resurrected at the Newcastle Labour Club so my Son,as an 8 wheeler driver of yesteryear and me being (possibly) the only “bona fide” mate present, every time my glass is empty I’ll expect you to say “same again son” ? I recall a couple of end of year ■■■■ ups in the Horse and Jockey at Dalton-in Furness with Eric, never put me 'and in me pocket all night !! But I had paid dearly over the previous months and the up coming year would be similar !! So it was a bit like collecting your Co-op Divi, you’d already paid eh! Cheers Dennis.

hiya,
OK, OK, I know the score I’ll get Eric to come along as well and let him
make a fuss of you, I’ll be too busy giving knotted rope lessons to up and
coming wag and drag men otherwise the trailer boys will start taking too
many liberties and then where will the job be, the sooner they bring the
passenger side handbrake back for the TB the better give em something
to do and it will stop them from reading ■■■■■■■ therefore help keep up
their strength for the roping and sheeting duties, you can’t teach an old
dog new tricks Dennis.
thanks harry, long retired.

Give over “H”,your bringing a tear to my eye,you are! If only the clock could be turned back 45 years or so,Eric and me had some hard days and not a few “hard and happy” nights up and down “the road” we live in a different world now which we can’t explain to these youngsters eh! Cheers Dennis.
