The bottom end has just had a load of brand new Transists parked up.

is the pub through the fence at washinton services still there and the working mans club down the road still there two lovely places with a great welcome regards rowland and the food in the pub great

I Neva stopped their ang , it was handy if we had left yard after loading trailers, used to go in for a shower and a bite to eat , as we normally had 3-4 days driving in front of us, as the next meal would have been the ferry or the shuttle , then 2-3 he’s off the other side park up and ye ready for bed, not showering at daft o’clock in the morning , the new car showroom is huge on the site now, bet Arnold clark put a few noses out of place opening that as I think they do different makes of cars

Rward, yes the pub still open mate and the club down the road think you get a few drivers in for a couple of beers that park in Washington services

Yep but mam is just over from there so would have called in there for a shower at least know it would be clean & hot also would have been fed   cost less too

It used to be clean and you got a hot dinner, before that night owl took it over, you were home most nights anyway , and we probably had been sheeting trailers , someone might have had summit to say if I had gone to your mams, I wouldn’t have got an artic parked their

You would there have been a few parked at the back of hers trust me dad even put a gate on the back   so not a prob

I got banned from there in the 80’s  , I stopped there 2-3 nights a week. I used to load late afternoon from British engines at St. Peter’s on the quayside, it was swarf turnings in a tipper, it was usually spun in a centrifuge to remove the white water soluble slurry oil, however one night unbeknown to me I got a load of the wet stuff in with the load. Parking up about 6.30pm I showered had some tea and watched a bit of telly when I get a knock on the door from an irate security guard asking what the hell is that lake of white liquid behind my lorry, I told him it was harmless slurry which didn’t go down well with him and he told me I must leave (yeh right my hours were up!) any way the upshot was after a heated discussion with the management it was decided I should leave at the earliest possible and not to grace there premises again ! I never did and it so happened I never got a wet load again either :unamused: No big loss, as it was not long after that they seemed to go into decline in standards !

Arnold Clark has closed his compound at Davey bank and is using that land for storing the transits on …

The pub behind the services used to be called the Board Inn. It is now a restaurant. Belongs to a company called Tavistock Retsaurants.

I presume the club is Barley Mow WMC opposite the BOC. That is still going strong.

Had some great times in Birtley truckstop. My ex boss built and run the truckstop for a few years and we were based there. Spent many a night in the bar instead of coming home .( single lad at the time). The food was good and all the staff were friendly,
It all went down hill when BP bought it and it was all about massive profit.

Geordie Truckers used to have there meets & the odd social do in the Truckstop before BP took it on.

Here’s a few from my time at Fergies. Should interest Alec if nobody else.
