Yes, I remember Tyzaks- I don’t know what other, if any, fleet they had, but two 8 wheeler Atkinson tippers used to pass through Throckley regularly-one with the fibreglass cab, which I think was JBR 926 and one , with the earlier ‘square’ cab. Colours were grey with red wheels (and, I think red wings)

Regards, Eric.

These two Akis were most likley supplied by the Theatre Garage Low Row in Sunderland who were the main North East dealers in those days, Regards Larry.

They had quite a few 4 wheelers delivering finished products to sites. The D series were long wheel base, 24-26 ft I believe, they all had the splash of red.

I remember Blackett’s around late 60’s-early 70’s when their fleet was mainly ‘J’ type (bonneted) Bedfords-before he went on to Dodges. It was said at the time that George would give each driver a pint of milk-to go with their bait-every day. Whether this was true or not,I don’t know! Maybe if any of his ex.drivers do reply, they can tell us more. I believe George actually lived in a bungalow, named ‘Stornoway’ (I think that was the name), next to the yard on Great Lime Road.

Regards, Eric.
