Old North East haulage companies (Part 1)

Hi Lawrence What a memory or a big bookyou got to remember all this , You asked about Charlie Fox last time l saw him he had been in for two throat operations due to the big C and was on the mend , but that was about two years ago.
You were also on about John Jennings lads Tommy Gray is in an old folks home ,servicing all the old ladies or so he told me at Crow’s reunion about 4years ago.
Little Joe Hewson was another , but now long gone . His son was a app fitter at Crow’s now works for GAP Plant in toon. His brother Sid was at Crow’s as well with Bobby Brown and John Merritt.
Will hope to be at the reunion at xmas

You could be right Bumper Formans ran some of these, its a 1955, Newcastle Reg, Jayky & Shorties also had one two, Crows of Gateshead had one, Crowbar will probabley know by the Reg No. Great Photo, Regards Larry

Bumper can you remember the year this photo was taken , looking at the MJR, Reg on the other wagon I would think it would be 57/58. Regards Larry

hi larry don.t know when photo was taken, it was among a batch that i received from an old guy scotland, the reg would be 55-56, Herbie smails had a bedford s with an r6 Perkin’s fitted, MJR124 Neil Spowart was the driver,bumper

bumper and lawrece i hope you dont mind me jumping in but those bags on the dockers pallets were fishmeal and i think the wagons belong to charley davison hexham area because he used to load of steenbergs

Found some more old pics of the stuff we used to move on the Brimecs.

And not exactly a North East Haulier but they were based at Tyne Terminal when I worked there

i remember geordie hogg driving a bison like that don,t know if it,s the same one ?

no problem jimmy, nice to hear from you, mid 50ty-60ty did New Zealand lamb and Argentina chilled beef in out of union and c-w-s cold stores,then did nothing on or off the quayside till i started for old john brownlee 1966 , that’s when the quayside started to decline , and it was all export that we unloaded on the quayside, mining machinery, ships spares, and most of that was down on the commission quay north shields,happy days jimmy’ :laughing: :laughing: bumper

Looks to me like old sheds of vickers between where the hydrolic pub once stood and where paradise bridge was. prob miles out but its the image i see

Well its certainley a possibiltey,But its such long time since those old buildings were demolished, Im racking my brain all the time, Regards Larry

i bumper in the mid sixties when the boats used to be two or three deap the dockers used to frozen lamb chops into the the ship pub and prina used to cook them for all of us drivers from steenbergs and jackie phillips used to call in for a few bottles of docktor broon :exclamation:

Anybody mentioned CRS Transport of Prudhoe,used to know a few lads on for them. would be nice to see any photos if anybody has some. They were always a tidy fleet
