Kevmac I was tipping coil at ASD Birtley yesterday Ihad my normal chat with Ivan Bramwell he,s been shunting there since retiring from Paul Reays loading trailers for Linkfast or something any way he was given notice that JR Adams has taken over the job and he desn,t want to carry on so Jakeys might be after drivers for the steel job could be worth a phone call

Time to park up for good Kev ? its not worth the crap that the job has with it. :frowning: :frowning: :frowning:

Found some more old pics of the stuff we used to move on the Brimecs.

And not exactly a North East Haulier but they were based at Tyne Terminal when I worked there

Done some miles in that one…Never could get the hang of that gearbox though…

Back to front 3rd and 4th? Great once you were used to it!

A Fuller was it?

Once again lads thanks for all the positive suggestions and the good wishes. I will keep you posted.
regards Kev.

Well Kev. its a true saying, never say die, youve been at the haulage game a long time, you learnt the hard way, so you must come out on top, as Im sure you will. Regards Larry

Jimmy Im sorry to hear that about Les. Him & I go back a long way , He was allways on local, never fancied the distance work, He reckoned it would interfere with his drinking habits, He used to drink 12 to 14 pints no bother, I used to say to him have you got hollow legs, or drain tapds on your toes, he just used to laugh it off, & call me a budgie drinker, I will have to give Jaquy his wife a ring sometime, she is a real canny lass too. Regards Larry

This thread is just great for me, & Im sure a lot more drivers from the 50/s onwards., will enjoy it as I do, but there must be a lot more old timmers like myself still about, perhaps not into this sort of thing, but my grandson convinced me that this is the way forward, so come on you old timmers from the 50s era get your grandbairns to show you , like my grandson Richard did for me, it opened a whole new episode into my life, my driving years on long distance, were the best years of my life, I worked & met some of the best drivers that ever lived. Im a very proud sort of a bloke 7 very proud of my family, which gave me full support in 1972 when I decided to have a go on my own, hard at the start, but I was determined to do good , which was difficult, but I made it in the end, Im retired now well sort of, I still do a little bit. & I still enjoy doing it. Regards Larry

Not only is it good for you Larry but I am a bit younger & picking up a lot form you “older” hands although been in transport a short (15yr) while compared to some of you on here

This is how we younger can learn as it dont really happen on the job these days so the younger ones coming into the industry dont know much

All you would have to do is look at some of the stuff posted in the " New & Wanabees " :unamused: :unamused:
