I did send him a message through facebook and asked him to contact Glenman again, but I haven’t seen him to speak to for over 13 years.

He worked at Howdendyke jetty after giving up driving but that was many years ago. But I worked with Ken Young for a while.

I worked with Eric at The dyke lost contact when i was pulled out to work for RIX SHIPPING Eric was ok to know and could be relied on Surprise surprise my first load out of Limbs On Alex dock i found Eric In the offices i retired 2001 and lost contact

Question Dave ?When i get a message i am not sure how to open it ?

You will have known the Sharper by Harper crew. Rookes and Barry Malcolmson then. Bruce Darley passed away last year!

On an earlier post i saw a mention of Whitfield transport… Geoffrey was a good friend of mine and met on many occasion doing the same typew of work such as timber and cabins all round the country Geoffs truck FODEN ■■■■■■■ 350 well cared fo and probably now still running some where Geoff was one of four boys in the Whitfield family . Which in cluded David who i met on several occasions and the names of the other two seem to have got lost in my head…I may add that all the brothers were great singers and all had the choice of stardom which was only taken up by David As well as being a friend as to Geoffs whereabouts now i do not know,

But Tight He is the only man who kept one ciggie in a packet in his pocket so he did not have to hand them round

Re The Dyke yes i knew and worked with them all Bruce was a very good friend as were all the Harper boys very cut throat they were all trying to cut each others rates and in the end all the outsiders and Subies got ousted
Rookes tspt now defunct other than i think a couler of day motors that work on the Dyke
Most of what i call the old boys in this area have gone to the big truckstop Parkedup and called it a day in my time i met some wonderfull lads and had at least two dam good bosses and a couple of absolute Barstewards//
But my roots are in Hull All exept That bloody Albion Clydesdale.I cringe at the mention

Re the Cafe on willy wright Remember it well

But hows about Woodside Still running strong.

Mayphil at b/ferry bridge noe defunct Owned by Large continental truck dealers

Swift Cafe Howden Long time gone

GYME CAFE long time gone .

Oh last but not least Wembly cafe at Newport

Any more Toms at Blyth Margarets at Blyth

Any body recall Jimmy Millar x Reader trans With the flying Leyland Comets

And for now who recalls Hewson Bros from Howden and their Hull shunter TAFF pennington Some charactor if you ever needed a trailor for a day or two See Taff grease his palm and you wer mobile not saying it was illegal but well lets face it Thats Truck driving

I Spotted a couple of Hewson pics on here the other day

Some time ago one of the members me tioned an incident regarding one of Blundells paint lorrys involved in a crash, he was not sure wether Blundells ran a fleet, EDWARDS of HULL ran fro them in Blundells livery, as they did with Storry DSmithsons of Beverley. The daughter of one of the founders (Hargraves) EDWARDS & HARGRAVES later to become EDWARDS of HULL, gave me some scans, the have weathered a bit but are viewable, i have managed to get one of them scaled down, hell of a job, am trying to knock the Smithson down, will put it on when done.
Edwards operated from a yard in Rectory Lane in Preston nr Hull

I Managed to scale the Storry Smithson down…

Can you Hull lads guess where this location is… (Pic # 3) .a former garage/stables for horse drawn trams, a one time depot of the MIDLAND & WEST RIDING CARRYING CO (Hull & Nottingham) a former Calor Gas depot, and more recently a well known Hull ironmonger (The building dates from the 1880`s)

LSD (TRANSPORT) I well remember them running around Hull when i was a lad…never did find out what the initials stood for…
Advert for the Midland and West Riding Carrying Co…who would ever have thought that Jesmond Gardens was home to a transport firm…
Heres another 2 or three pics of old Hull firms…

I would be interested in anything to do with Hull as I was a regular on the docks man and small boy. My Uncle worked for John Good as a shipping clerk, runner and eventually accountant, before retiring and becoming a runner / handyman for them. The haulage company where I spent my childhood and early years had an office between Black Hut and the new KG dock cafe.

If you have the photos on your computer there is an easy way to share them with me. I mean US :stuck_out_tongue: by using the trucknet uploader. I will have a look at it and try to explain in language a lad from Hull will understand

Bernard Walmsley is an old family friend and Grandad to many drivers who have ventured over the North Sea.

If we are speaking of the same incident about Blundells Paint. It was a terrible accident outside the Rose and Crown on the A63, a head on smash between a car and a lorry and there was also a van involved. It could have been a thrupenny bit Leyland, but he paint was there for many years. It was right on the spot where we caught the school bus and I have sunk in paint several times.

Aye,Blundell-Permoglaze was a regular drop when I was on tankers. I think Blakey ran a London trunk out of there - well I think it was Blakeys.
Storey Smithson rings a bell,I’m sure I’ve delivered there, but can’t think where they were.

Yeh Blakeys used to do alot out of Blundells, I seem to remember Leicester was a regular run

I used to help my grandad fold the sheets and put them on the Flatbed trailer and winding the trailor legs up was always my job :grimacing: …ahh great days

Bryboy, regarding Jimmy Miller he is still alive and kicking, he retired a few years ago now from Abrams and lives on Spring cottage. he is in his eighties now. There’s a picture of him loading christmas tree’s on one of Readers eight wheelers on this post. As for Fred Simmons if its Eddie Simmonds lad your on about, I was working with him last week delivery flowers for Mothers day. Sherloc.
