Might be wrong but i believe Arrow Bulk became Calor Transport.■■?
I don’t know Greyhound,maybe Wheelnut Malc knows.
I am not sure about Arrow, Chris. The wash bay pictured became IBL and Calor at the time worked out of BP as well as spot hire. Ted, the guy on Formans wash with old Jack drove for Calor, then went to H&P before finishing off driving at John Dobsons on Nijman Zeetank.
BP had an identity crisis or rather the additive side did, with Adibis and Orobis liveries on tanks operated by Sutton, P&O LPG and many others I think. Some British Celanese lads had a steady number with one load a day Spondon - Saltend and back iirc
Did John (Stanfield) once post something about Arrow Bulk?
Calor did take over “Arrow Bulk Liquids” and moved about 100 yards away on the other side of is it “Cleveland Street” and IBL kept the wash which Tony ran, and the foreman was “Ivan the terrible” in the 70s I new nearly all the drivers but can only remember "Ron " the shop steward who had one of the first MAN s day cab and Brian a blonde haired guy who went on to be a owner driver. With the grey cell rotting away I may recall some more and will post them. They also had a couple of poxy loading points at IBL as well.
I think this picture was originally put on by Stanfield (John) so I hope he doesn’t mind me using it on the Hull thread.Looks like the Arrow Foden is on Standedge (A62) followed by what looks like a Suttons Atkinson. What a great picture. ![:sunglasses: :sunglasses:](https://emoji.discourse-cdn.com/twitter/sunglasses.png?v=12)

Ivan could make a grown driver cry with his ways, the best bloke in the yard was old Gordon who mixed the fats for animal feed, what was the guy in the weighbridge called? He could have his moments too…
There is a rather sorry story to relate about Tony when he lost his job, he occasionally helped an owner driver or two with a cheaper wash, like booking a cold wash and giving him a fiver and getting half an hours steam for nothing. It was a perk rather than theft but the CID didn’t see it that way.
The problem was that the manager lived next door to an owner driver, the owner driver was seen nipping in for a wash, but the manager could not find any invoices or wash tickets with his registration on. After that the wash bay was under surveilance.
It all changed when it became part of the White Sea and Baltic company from Garforth, even the gates and the weighbridge were replaced, with a new wash bay built on Lime Street.

Malc was the weighbridge man called George he would make you take 10kgs off and you had to stand on the bridge while he weighed the wagon if I recall correctly
cheers Johnnie

George. That was it, he could have been an ex Arrow driver or maybe Calor, but between the office staff, Ivan, Tony and George they could make or break your day, especially when doing 3 loads into Chambers and Fargus. ![ ](https://emoji.discourse-cdn.com/twitter/laughing.png?v=12)
Arrow also owned Ash Grove Motor Engineers the MAN dealer until about 1977 If I recall
A couple of oldies here for you lads from Hull.

Great pictures John, thanks. I don’t remember Hunters but think E Brown are still around. Were they at Victoria Barracks?
Armstrongs in their original form are sadly not. Armstrong Patents became famous for an important law making decision over copyright when British Leyland took them to court for reproducing an exhaust system for a Morris Marina.
BL lost the appeal and from that decision we can still buy spurious parts for the right money! You can still get ■■■■■■ at Armstrongs Club too ![:stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:](https://emoji.discourse-cdn.com/twitter/stuck_out_tongue.png?v=12)
i remember seeing Browns from Beverley with that Hull-London advert on the headboard and I think there was a picture of an elephant’s head as well.
Wheelnut Malc will know ![ ](https://emoji.discourse-cdn.com/twitter/laughing.png?v=12)

Calor and Orobis tankers all had ERF ‘a’ series ,then moved onto MAN,with twin sleepers. What a step up of luxury.
A couple from the 60’s, drivers in the yard, tall lad called Smithy, anyone remember the transport manager Eddie Tomlinson ?

Hi greyhound I am sure that Arrow had MANs well before they were taken over by Calor as they were something to do with Ashgrove Motors as spud1960 said and I would say it was very late 70s or early 80s when Calor took them over as I do know that in the big strike in 77 it was still Arrow as I had some communications with their shop steward as we had been one of the first to agree to the £1 a hour and were doing a lot of the dispensation work and I let them ptoto copy our agreement so they could turn the screw a bit more on their gaffers. I would say the first ones they had were “M” reg day cabs fitted with a drop down bunk which would be around 74.
i worked for mat from 1991 to 2000 good company to work for left when stopped going acoss the water how i wish there was jobs like it now
