I remeber Blackeys having the longest non trombone trailer in the east riding. And the ten bob a tone roundabout is known by everyone who ran into Hull. I worked for Mat transport and ran out of MIFT in Manchester but spent a lot of time in Hull. We used to have our motors serviced on nights and used to stop in digs run by Archie Pace, I saw him on here last week. Hull was alive with hauliers back then and the fish trade was just in decline. I worked for Mat for 13 years and still have great memories of nights out in Hull going to Rayners, the Monkey bar and the Earl-de-Gray.

No doubt you were looked after in Rayners by this lady who has just shuffled off.

Wheel Nut. Thanks for the press cutting abot Flo from Rayners. Everyone knew Flo and for all the right reasons, sorry to see she has gone. Her son used to play the drums in Rayners along with an organist.
Cliff

Hullo Cliff,

I’ve got a photo somewhere of Clarise, Johnny Mac, Trevor Tuckey, Gordon Nunn and myself with Flo. If I can lay hands on it when I get home in March, I shall put it on the MAT thread.
Cheers, Archie.
ps. As I remember Clarise’s son used to like to play with Organs.

Thanks Archie I will look forward to that. I was in Rayners the night Johnny Mac jacked it in with MAT and went living with the landlady at Rayners, we had several shandies that night and I remember the Scania been on auto pilot back to Manchester.
Cliff :grimacing:

Hullo Malc and Cliff,

Here’s A photo I’ve found of Clarice the Landlady, that married Johnny Mack (MAT Driver) and Beryl a Barmaid. Flo is in my other Photo, in the Star & Garter ( Rayners ) The last time I saw Clarice and Johnny they were at a new Pub, at the Railway Crossing at ■■? I’ve forgotten the Avenue’s name now. Got It HAWTHORN AVENUE>
Cheers, Archie.

It was interesting to read that Flo’s son was a founder member of the Beautiful South with Paul Heaton, Norman Cook et al

Thought it was time to bump this thread

The picture is at the Volvo Truck plant in Sweden and is the 100th Volvo supplied to Edwards Logistics

Those Hull drivers spent more time in Woodside than they did at home. :stuck_out_tongue:

Bulk Storage became Hoyers. I worked with a lad from Paull called Paul. He was an apprentice with bulk Storage before going to work for IBC on Hedon Road

Another new Mercedes 2033 ready for the road supplied by Humberside Motors at Newport.

Remember Unifreight?

I remember Unifreight, my old man was one of the men behind it and we both now work for Syd Draper and his youngest son Craig or Loadtec ltd as its known now. Syd and the old man still talk about the good old days and how that motor couldn’t pull the skin off a rice pudding

anybody remember LEP transport?

LEP had two places in Goole, they started down 5th Avenue where Majestic Garages was, it was in part of that building, they then moved to Anderson road. Ronnie Studer was the boss man, Edward Cretney was something high up too. Edward used to run his own lorries and ended up working fro Central Trailer Rentco on Alexander dock.

This is my Goole and this was written about an old friend of the family when he died.

Brian then worked at Willmott Motors in Howden (now the Geodis site) eventually becoming a partner in the business.

When the Willmotts retired a new partnership was formed with LEP Transport and Hauliers of Goole (Edward Cretney) and a new business, called Majestic Garages was formed.

Majestic Garages was the Leyland Distributor but supplied any vehicles to whoever wanted one.
