Not getting much sleep Steve (4 hours a night aint no good for anyone), not seeing family much and I’ve awakened an old knee problem. Add that to the fact I miss the tippers so I’ve asked around and got something. There’ll be a few surprised faces on the green fleet…

Yes Steve, I did have a FL when I started on Cannons :frowning: , & as you can see it was a FL7 :unamused: , at 38 tons up & down from South Wales to Didcot Power Station on the coal, & sorry but she wouldn’t pull your 4skin back  ! The FL10s were better, I had 1 later on RT Express & she went like hell once you got her wound up, but that “Wendy House” cab used to do my head in! Loved my old F7 though, great workhorse & I found them a lovely wagon to drive!
Chris

What BHP was that FL7? Smiths used to use a subbie who had an FL7 240 in an 8wheeler and I always got stuck behind him around the Burford and Stow areas for some reason.

cHRIS , L ove the red sun visors on the Volvos .,also how come you had the curtains pulled on the f7 but not on the fl ?

To be honest I can’t remember now! at 38 tons it went like it had a 180 in it :open_mouth: . They coped better on General at 32t & below, 38 t just seemed a Bridge too Far for them :frowning: . Andy, can you remember? (If you can get off the beach for long enough to answer    !

Those Scania’s are heavy on fuel, but perhaps they will buy a Volvo.
Cheers Dave.

I have to agree Steve, the sun-visor did look the part, unfortunately I think it created enough wind-drag to slow her down even more :open_mouth:  ! As for the curtains, each coal wagon did 2 runs a day down & back South Wales, early shift left Milton Park at approx 3 am, down/back, tipping in Power Station then round to Milton Park, swap drivers with late man (I was on lates), we went down/back & tip in P.S. round to Cannons yard Tractor only & bunker/wash down & back round to Milton Park & hook-up trailer ready for early man. I never had any more in the cab than my bag with flask/sandwiches & a coat, so cab was just a shared work-place really. The F7 was just my wagon on General, so I could be out all week wherever/whenever, so it was full of my gear, small cooker/grill, TV, bed made up with bottom sheet, sheets/blankets etc, seat covers etc etc, so it far more private/personal, some like to keep the cab open & airy, I liked mine shut-in & private, each to their own personal preferance!
