Great , reckon this could be a great wagon to keep , what plans have you got for her ?
What you need is a picture from when she was on Timbets , I use to know another driver on Tmbets who use to drive the ERFS on a night trunk but i cannot recall where he is now .

I had planned to buff her up & take to a few shows,
Usual thing - Lack of time & plenty of jobs lined up for me indoors,
I know she isn’t that old yet (used to seeing KV’s & LV’s & B series at the shows) but they don’t make them anymore, and EC8’s were pretty rare in their day anyway, SO we’ll call her a future classic.
I do in fact run her occasionally, my mate does a bit of abnormal load work, with a rigis & a Daf unit. He has a selection of trailers (step frames & slopers) he uses depending on the job,
SO occasionally I’ll pull one of his when he needs 2 units on a job, we run together.

You are right there, I have been searching everywhere,
I did see a picture on here a couple of years back that Muckaway uploaded. It looked like a sister truck to mine (maybe) parked up at RP Cherry’s used as a shunter. No plates on it, so we could not be sure of the ID but it looked like the same as mine, same spec, tank etc, and I have the same colour in my door shuts, and behind the grill etc

Here is the first job i did with her, Collected my new Kitched from Howden’s, they said it was a nice change to be able to fork one on & not have to worry about running out of room
The next job she did was to move a new twin unit - crappy picture - but you get the idea
I have you asked Nathan (muckaway) if he still has photos? , I do recall the picture when it was parked up at Cherrys ,but not sure abour reg numbers etc , what was it plated up at ?
Great working shots there buddy , I think its a nice example of a future classic . pity she was not in the Timbets colours but dont think I would want to pay for that unless they contribute . great motor , let me know what you do next .

Thanks Nathan,
I have managed to find the picture of it, couldn’t see for looking, and it was taken after the reg plate either fell off or was removed,
I did find a picture of a rather smart E8 too,

Hi Big g . Doug wheeler has not got a shop by the old johnson cafe , the shop is “house of Honda” , Doug use to have a shop at the bottom of the Cowley rd but now have a shop in Witney .(the guy who ran the Cowley road was Morgan !!!).Sorry I cant recall the name of the guy who owns the House of Honda .
Hi JAKEY and George
House of Honda was owned by Doug Harper (Harpers of Cowley) and I’m not to sure but Doug Wheeler might have been there before Doug Harper and Honda. Doug Wheeler had connections with Garsington and later had a bike place somewhere in the village.
George you are right about Len Johnson, he was the father of Joe the motorbike scrambler(posh name motocross) and Doug Wheeler was also a motorbike scrambler and mentor to young Joe.
Starting from the roundabout and on the right it was CKD then Dealers Deliveries yard, Johnsons Cafe, Harpers of Cowley then the Station approach,( passenger side) then Alders Newsagent, under the bridge it was Cowley Ironworks then Ashville Way and Sandy Lane. On the left after the bridge was Station Goods yard the Morris Garages on the corner, left into what is now Transport Way, rh side Walls Icecream, Brookes Bookbinders then Dykes Bros, can’t remember next one, opposite Dykes was Progressive, next door was B J Hendry at the top the road split and went round both sides of J Harding and Son and H and M Transport yard.
*Dealers Deliveries were mostly platers with two transporters on contract to Stewart and Arden of London and the Home Counties
I really enjoyed my time in and around Oxford, all 37 years of it and especially the sixties.
Cheers

I know I’m digging back a bit here, but there’s not much happening on the thread, so I thought I’d continue this while it’s quiet.
Well Eddie, you mapping out that area stirred some memories for me, so here goes! Was CKD the packing case factory 'cos if it was I remember it being owned or managed in the '50’s by a chap named Ted Uncle, who, if I’m remembering correctly, was the step father of another Speedway rider from Oxford name of Ernie Lessiter. Ernie though, chose to ride for Swindon rather than his local track.
I did a short spell at Dealers Deliveries on ferrying out of the works at 15 gate & the field on the Horspath road, back of Pressed Steel. It was the start of the bad winter in '62 & was a dreadful time & must rate as the worst job I had! I couldn’t wait to get away! My dad was on plating there at the time, but he ended up on two London’s a day & back on the train, so it was a steady number. The manager at that time, was a chap named Mike Arkle, a nice bloke & a lovely family. I think they may have lived on the premises, but not too sure on that, as I remember them living at a place in Sandy Lane, but could have been at a later date.
You also mentioned Cowley Station, so I thought I’d add this photo, as it is kind of transport. This lady, who’s name was Ivy, was a relation of mine & she worked at the station for many years, I believe officially as a porter, but from what I can remember she practically ran the place, though there was a Station Master.
George, why is there an LMS box at Morris Cowley■■?!
Ah! I thought this post might interest you Nathan. I noticed that & can only assume it was taken just after nationalization, before the “British Railways” motifs had been applied.
Good to see you straying back to us mate!

I’m still around, but when I’m driving it tends to be a white cabbed Volvo with blue curtains so not as photogenic (and not as much time to take photos…)

Hi George, you’ve got me going again, in between leaving the buses and starting on Progressive I was on Dealers Deliveries and indeed during a bad winter which I guess was 62/63( nowadays the grey cells misfire quite a lot ) if your dad was on there, I must have known him, here’s a few names to ponder on…Harry Strange, Dave “Farmer” Lindsay (ex navy North Atlantic convoys) Ted “Yogi” Eyles, Pete Reeves, Fred Summers (TGWU steward), Ron Cavender, Dave Rapley, John Willoughby, John Crostan, Alex Dunlop, Peter Collery, Pete Hunt, Peter Heapy, Harold Coles, Vic Parsons, ? Jacobson, ? Spooner, Coppock twin brothers Les and Ron, Margaret Rackley(Office) and Mike Arkle and his wife who was also was in the office and other faces I can’t put names to.
As a youth I remember a neighbour having a crank to go velocipede like the one your relation has in the your pic, his was a Norman, they also made pushbikes in them days.
Apologies to those who have no interest in my ramblings, but like George says, the thread needs waking up now and again.
CKD (Complete Knock Down) (kit form), later became part of Nuffield Exports

Edit… adding names

Are there only a few Oxfordshire hauliers left nowadays? I look on the Directgov Job site and most jobs advertised are from agencies. O and “Company Confidential,” which means Driver Hire.
