Used to get called out to fix their trucks when I worked at MVC.

oatcake1967:
Fashion Fast, fenton,

Done a bit there on agency, I wonder if Dave Machin is still there■■? 10years ago he must have been 60 odd.
I have always found Fashion Fast quite hard to work out, never the best trucks nor the best wages but drivers have been there years and hardly ever leave.

oatcake1967:
Pugh Lewis, anyone remember them, modern day hell drivers.

I remember when Cedric worked there I was still at school, was never wise to be around when he was driving. I don’t think even the manufacturers thought it possible for a truck to be driven with such abuse.

Airbags to Gothenburg by any chance■■?
The best job I have ever had was at Danesbury and it was and still is the longest I have ever kept a job. Myself and a few others who worked there would still be there now if they were still going.

@Ben9 do you remember Stuart he ran the Pugh Lewis job and his brother Hanson I think, them pair would fight their own shadows

Fashion Fast I remember Dave had a Granada estate 2.8 ghia, I tried to get him to sell it to me but he would,nt part with.

Spot on with the Danesbury, It was a good job, but they wanted me to doubleman and when I started for them they agreed I would,nt have to but after about 6 months the goal posts moved and they wanted me to D.M. and I said no, so I think it was Jason, he told me I would lose my truck and be put on locals, so I handed my notice in and left a week later. I jumped on a plane and went to Canada and America for a month

i used to drive the coal trucks for pugh-lewis :frowning: ,only stayed on site though fetching the coal out of the hole an tipping it on the loading bay.
and fat stuart didnt run the job he was just a loading shovel driver who liked to think he was in charge

I drove it a couple of times, I think some of the gears were missin, or that could just of been me  ,
The ink was still a bit wet on my licence in those days.
I remember hearing that one of those terexs would push you up the hill if you were struggling, it never happened to me and I wondered if they were winding me up.

I remember my first day there, on the drive to the queue for the weighbridge, the gearbox in my cargo had already bitten me a couple of times.
Then one of the other new starters in front of me burst two tyres getting on the bridge, my bowels turned to liquid as I waited for my turn.

I managed the weighbridge okay and then kangarooed out the gate on the steepest learning curve of my life

It was some time in the late eighties, I don,t remember exactly. The reason I said it was not the highlight of my career was because it is the only time I have left a job without working my notice.

They had taken some parts of my truck, mirrors headlights etc, and replaced them with damaged ones, because they had another truck going for test :open_mouth: and I refused to leave the yard unless they changed them back,…Well you can guess the rest
