Old companys from stoke -on trent

hi all

can anyone remember or have info or pics on deakin transport from cobridge opposite the honda garage, he was an owner/driver & used to run a red 6 wheel ERF B series unit with the low roof jennings sleeper pulling a red tandem axle tilt & it said europe & north africa on the front of the cab.

Although i havent seen it for a while, he was running an E series, also fitted with a low roof Jennings sleeper. ( must of been the short day cab before, which was just a c series day cab fitted with e series front and interior). Its painted in the same livery as the b series and immaculate.

Sorry Ant but my old man was never a truck driver, the biggest thing he ever drove was an old BMC milk float at the old co-op dairy that is now a housing estate by Holden Bridge.

don’t think that would be a Jennings slepper cab on a E series it to late for them its possibly a car transporter unit. like scanias volvos and erfs the cabs was lowered to the lowest possible hight to accomadate the trailer overhang.

Sorry, was getting you mixed up with Mark Adams, he went to Sneyd Street school, but thinking back now, he lived in Kidsgrove, his Nan lived in Sneyd Street at the bottom- Do you know him ■■ When were you at Sneyd Street school, I went there and left in 78, used to live on Hanley Rd up from the co - op dairy, remeber them well werring past my bedroom window

Hi Ant, showing me age now but I must have left Sneyd Street in app/ 73, went to Moorland Road in Burslem then. Used to live in Sneyd Green on Brianson Ave. until 77 when both me parents died.

Hiya…That Holden bridge was a pain in the but. when i did straw traveling from Leek i had to go onto high lane across the bridge
down past the co-op it could take upto 25mins to travel 200yds… things we’ve put up with.

From an article in “The Sentinel” about a year ago,Wrights pies are exported halfway round the world.
I have seen one of their artics with TIR plates on,don’t know if this is kosher or a drivers bit of b/s!

Wow, that was a trip down memory lane, I started reading this thread a 3am and its now 7am and the suns coming up here in Malaysia.

I had a big list of old firms when I first started reading, but one by one it got whittled down so here is a few from me.
Kettles, red leylands with tipper trailers with drive wheels.
R.Blase, 8 wheelers
Ratcliffes, Bedford TKs tippers, lovely old boy I was in hospital same time as him in 92 salt of the earth.

I have 2 JSL photos but will have to get them scanned.
I gotta go Im knackered. :laughing:

So after a few hours kip Im back and I have a list of companies I used to work for.

Some are from Cheshire, so you will have to forgive me,but I still lived in Stoke at the time.

Yeh they had a yard on sneyd hill near moorland rd colledge, I think Salvatoris took them over.
