Old companys from stoke -on trent

HI Transporter man
You’ve got us all stumped can’t think of this chap with double drive units. Can you remember what colour or what work they did. Its getting at me now.
Someone mentioned Mick Badderley He had six wheeler Fodens Silver with Blue Horizontal stripes they did Heinz work to the south west.
Iv’e put a list on page 10 sixth paragraph down, These are companies not mentioned much,in Stoke area as i wright I thought about Ashley transport, Sturge, Walchesters,Can anyone recall Bert mellor, he run 1/2 dozen gravel lorries from a petrol station at Norton Green ,Creda, Alcock,s another ERF user, MFS was another outfit in Stoke They did containers also truck sales, If you wanted a truck they was runnig they’d sell it to you.well thats a few more not on the list.
YOU lot are still letting me down what’s that chaps name■■? he did Europe Guy big J / Merc 1924 He had that tea van in a lay by,Late 80s nr jct 15 on the left
coming towards Stoke.

Are Carless Chemicals still going at Longport? They used to be known as Carless,Capel and Leonard,main plant was at Harwich.
I think these photos were taken at Longport,the plant was near the railway and Shelton steelworks IIRC.I haven’t been in there since mid-70s.A mate of mine took these in later years.


The set up is still their but its been Repsol for a few years now Chris.

Can you help with this little teaser, On the Berresfords motors Cheddleton site is a picture of a Thorneycroft reg TBF 995.It is obvisoley a Stoke registered
motor, Can anyone remember their dad/ uncle or even grandpar driving this lorry and who for.I have a pal who has just about finished restoring one identical And is very intrested with the lorry in the photo.

Now I can’t remember rightley i think you’r correct their was two Bailey’s and a Baddley and at one time all used red livery and all did the same work IICR
One of the B’s and I’am not sure which married Jack Critchlow’s daughter am i correct■■?.

your right 240 gardner, there was mick bailey & n & j bailey who used to run out of the same yard in canel lane, longport also t m green ran out of there aswell he had 3 erf’s they were just all blue motors, then mick bailey moved to canel street, longport where he runs his concrete business from now, well next door actually.

as asked before has anybody got any janerite pics please as i need some for a model project

i worked for mick for a few years in the garage when he was down the back of platts tiles terry green also had a foden what bob used to drive only remember him having 2 erf’s though . mick was married to jack critchlows daughter june .

he had two fodens with blue stripes one was a double drive the other a twin steer i converted them from 4x2s for him along with a quiet a few others

I was thinking that when I first saw the pic.

The Foden that you can see in the pic, I was given the front grille badge off and (hopefully) it’s still round my mums house.

Just look at these little beauties. these photos was taked in the 80s at Astle park steam rally.This driver keeps smiling and getting on these photos I don’t why HA HA any Rokold drivers looking in do you recognise him.

The AEC 4 wheeler of Tideswells is a Mamoth major but instead of been 8 wheelers Bowaters orderd 4 wheeler and trailer configeration.

you might be right mate, my memmories are from 1980 onwards, i know terry green had a b series erf that went like a train, my mate tony used to drive it, & the a series which i remember going on a trip with tony to birmingham with a load of steel reinforcing mesh for concrete, while the b series was in for servicing & m o t.
Mick is still married to june.

A load of busses run out of jack critchelows old yard now, i live just round the corner from it.

i remember tony well .i went out to the b series once when it was broke down , couldn’t find Tony any were so tipped the cab over we founded him then he was a sleep in the cab with a sheep skin rug over him :smiley: happy day’s . did you work for jack the gaz ? some cases worked on there :slight_smile:
