I don’t know if John Copestake is still alive,he used to live in Wolstanton, not far from me.
Sorry,no pics.
Don’t know if there is any connection or relation but there is a Copestake who runs a couple of trucks out of Knypersley.
If John Copestake is still going he will be well into his 80’s now.
I believe he was a Spitfire pilot during the war.
Another old boss of mine who is still going is Ron Carman of Carmans/Brit European,I spoke to him on the 'phone a few months ago.His son Rod Carman now runs the operation.
Are Spencers Transport still going and if so, do they still run any ERFs?
Cheers
Mark
I hope Arthur Shirley gets round to restoring those motors, or will let them go to someone who will, such a shame to see them drop to pieces.
Mind you the last time I cleaned out in Cellarhead, the whole yard looked like a museum

Hi Wheelnut

Well done flatman some great snaps on there, I was in that yard at Cellar head two weeks ago mvt is still in the same spot,
Their’s some good tackle in there but its going to ruin.Did you drive at Bassetts■■? They rebuilt one i used to drive years ago
it was a S39 HRE 685 K.
John.
I live in Derbyshire and my driving career has been with firms in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, I had 18 years with NCB/British Coal/NPT. The last ten years have been with Browns Builders Merchants of Derby, till I was finished through ill health. A couple more for you taken at Cellarhead in March 1991.
I don’t suppose you ventured into Beresfords yard back in those days Mr Flatman would be great to see a bit more history.
Hi
Don’t know if you should look at these,( They should be censored or a least not in front of the kids) I tryed to buy her but know one could make
up their mind (including me). I looked again two months ago ,I pondered on making a glass fibre mould to make some cabs but is it worth while ■■?. Its painful to look at her don’t you think, she’s complete apart from the cab, and its a six wheeler tag axle.
But I spent my spare cash on the DAF now so its too late for me!!! and is it to late for her ■■? I still love her and if I had a lottery win (or a spare new cab) she’d still be mine.
John
Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear It looks like a lifetimes work, to make it go again

Can anyone remember the name of the Stoke firm that ran 6 wheeler ERF tractors down to Cornwall and back with clay, I cannot remember the name but I bought one of these vehicles and converted it into a wrecker the reg was DVT 723J. The vehicle is still on the go now running around the truck shows. When I bought it I had the choice of about 6 and picked the one with the Hendrickson 2 spring bogie as the traction was always better than the ERF 4 spring set up.
Hi transporterman
If the ERF tractor units was twin steer John Jenks would be your man he sold up in 1970 i think, large farm and 1/2 dozen trucks to the I O M he did go.
Michel Baddley he did similar work ERF steel cab’s Red and Maroon,Then Bailey’s ERF’s later Volvo always very clean Red in colour maybe a Scania to date.
John.
HI
If my info is as good as my spelling my info is rubbish Sorry transportman.
Hi Two years ago a chap from Brown Edge was at Llandudno Transport Festival with one John Jenks old motors. I could’nt at the time think who had twinsteer
ERF’s in Stoke and asked the owner he said Jenks. I had forgoten them and to say 1966 / 71 I worked at Sun works building them, and worked for firms
in Stoke,It was nice to see it.
3300 john
yeh your right about Bailey’s mate, they run a scania highline at the moment , just 1 i think, & Mick Bailey who used to run the blue & silver foden & erf’s on a heinz contract, he runs a concrete making business now & has a little industial estate where he used to run his trucks from, but his son Paul runs a red scania topline from that very industrial estate. & i belive that B Reid (White with a green, yellow & grey stripe) transport also runs from there & Robinsons (White & blue ERF’s), oh & Ken Wood transport aswell.
cheers

Hi John
That name does not ring a bell, these units were all double drive 6 wheelers he bought these units thinking that the weights would go up, but they didn’t during the time he had them. I think the truck was blue.
