Thanks Ant, maybe somebody knows some more about this trip, I hope so.
I have just heard from Rob Campbell who said he has got a load of old Berrisford photos which hopefully he is going to put on here, so I am looking forward to that.
Best regards Steve.

Robert,
Although I worked for Chapman and Ball for two years,I never took any pics.I received some recently from Truckerash, and as he has the copyright, either request him to post them again,or I’ll ask him if I can.

Sorry for the delay been waiting for the dust to settle after all the changes but as Promised to Steve (Mushroomman) a few more Beresford Pictures taken on trips up to Stoke in 82/83.Have tried to put a better selection on this time.Hope they’re ok

These two are courtesy of Truckphotos4sale I hope Gary doesn’t mind .As I’ve said before I just want to share my interest like everyone else on here.

Apologies for the postage stamp picture still haven’t got me head round this cropping and resizing lark.Lets try again.

These were taken on a couple of the trips abroad I was lucky to go on.

Rob,

Do you know if Les Smith’s nickname was “snotty” I remember there was a Les on Beresfords who’s nickname was snotty and was a good mate of my Dad’s, if not does anybody remeber him ■■

Ant

Ant Don’t know about the nickname only met him the once a larger than life character and very chatty iirc.

Does anyone know or remember Albert Dale a Beresford subbie who lived at Ash nr Dover.I have a few cuttings of when he got a then new MAN 22 361 I think .I know one piece was a LDD in Truck & Driver. Will have a dig around at home.

I remember Harold,or was it Albert? Dale when he was running Fret Fracais from a portacabin in Chapman and Ball’s yard in the late '70’s.

Hi Bestbooties,
Ian, whatever happened to two blokes that I knew from your neck of the woods, I am sure you will know, they were both on for Mark Young and then they were working for Frans Maas out of Manchester. “Popeye”, and Harry ( forget his surname )

Archie,

I worked with Pop and unfortunately Harry Gill !! on Frans Maas, believe it or not Pop came into see me last week, haven’t seen him for about 15 years and as usual appered out of nowhere, nice surprise, had a good chat. Not seen Harry since finishing on Frans Maas, last I heard of him he was driving for Potteries Demolition, had Lee Durose old Scania 143 ( G89 BLV ).

There is a photo (or was before the upgrade) of Pops F12 Globey on the Frans Maas thread.

Regards
Ant

Hi Willy Roadstar,
Thanks very much for the info, I`m glad popeye is still around, I found him to be a good friend, and he was very helpful to me in one of those times of need. If you do see him again please give him my best regards, he was a really nice bloke. Harry Gill, yes that was him. ( a miserable old bugger). Lee Durose eh?, I do remember him, a real nice young guy, I remember he had a Scania too. I only ever met him the once but I understand he ended up with a few Motors, good for him I hope he does well.

Willie, Harry Gill is working for Matthews from Great Yarmouth. I think we are on about the same guy from Longton? used to share a yard with him when he had his own trucks, a couple of old Magnums, one an ex Nobby Dentrasangle one, that he used to go over the water with. He packed up a couple of years ago, thats when he started on Matthews, He drives an FH on cloggy plates, can see him him a mile off cos of all the crap he keeps in his windscreen!, Parks down Mossfield Road, on the rare occasion that hes home. Have heard many a tale off Harry

Archie,
I’ve known Popeye and Harry Gill, for a good many years.I worked at the Fiat agents in Burslem where Chapman and Ball had their Fiats from.We had a new one in factory white ready for delivery, just before Popeye got married,(to Dolly from Graz),and the truck was used as their wedding transport with me as chauffure(sp).
When I went onto C & B Popeye and Harry had left,Popeye’s mate big Ron MacDonald was still there.(Last I heard he was living in Spain).
The last time I saw Harry was in the Londra about 25 years ago.
I’ve seen Popeye around Stoke several times over the years and I spoke to him on the phone about 12 months ago, that’s when he sent me the DVD of Destination Doha.
From what I gathered speaking to him,his legs are not too good these days but he’s doing a bit of European recovery.

Ian,
Thank you for that, if you should see popeye to speak to, will you please give him my best regards, glad he seems to still be doing a bit.
