Out of interest, any of you M/E guys know anything about the Scania wagon and drag in the back ground?
Never seen that outfit before on any of the previous pics, postings or threads!!
With “London” written on the front half and what I presume to be “Middle East” written on the triler it must have been a regular on the run!!
An O/D maybe??
Cheers, bullitt.

Thanks for sharing those Jeff, I thought that there were more than those but it’s probably that I kept looking at them over and over again. It might be a good idea to show the couple of photos with all the drivers on, maybe Phil could put a few names to the faces.
I wonder Jeff if it would be possible if any of " The Stoke Lads ’ reading this could contact the local newspaper, is it The Sentinal ( or is that still going ) and see if they could reprint that story about Alan and Les taking that twenty ton of copper to India in the 70s, they must have it the archives.
Let’s hope Ant or somebody can pick up the challenge.
Best regards Steve.
Rob Campbell:
Hi Rob, I presume that this photo was taken in West Germany in the 80s ?.
Can you tell me who the driver is in the photo and do you know who was driving the Dow Freight Scania ?. and which service area it is.
Regards Steve.
Steve The Beresford driver in the photo is Jack Kelly who I was lucky to go away with several times in the early eighties as a Truck mad youngster. Don’t know who the Dow driver was sorry I just took the pic before we set off .Your right it is Germany as we were on route to RAF Laarbruch but not sure where although we did stop at Frechen a few times could it be there??

any body else who knows who is on the pic feel free to tell us all
the on on the far right i think is ray Gould
these are the only other two i can find steve .
Jeff, I have still got them on my Outlook Express if you want me to send them to you on e-mail then I can do. I dont know how to transfer photo’s from e-mail to Trucknet so I hope that somebody can help me.
Next time you speak to Phil can you ask him if a Barry Longden worked for Morgan Overland. I think that Barry once told me that he worked for a Barry Morgan, is this the same company ? I think that he also worked for Jameisons from Machester doing Iran in the 70s.
Best regards Steve.
P.S.
That last photo looks like The Harem Hotel in Istanbul where The Old Fellers used to get the ferry across before the bridge was built.
yeh it is the harem hotel steve .can you email me the pics steve if you dont mind . have to put them some place safe this time

Hi Ant, I was sat with Alan Morrey in the queue on the Bulgarian side of Kapicule back in 1980 and he told me the story.
It was some time in the 1970s and Alan was driving for Thor Transport, he phoned the office on his way back from Austria and was asked if he could do a turn around in Dover. Alan asked where to and he was told we are not sure yet the job has not yet been finalized. He told them that he had no clean clothes left and they said go to the launderette in Dover and we will pick up the bill.
Alan phoned again when he got to Dover to ask where he was going and was told that he was double manning in a Volvo F88 to take 20 ton of copper to some place in India. Apparently, the load would of taken to long to go by sea and could not go by air as the copper could of interferred with the planes navigational equipment.
Les Parkinson went down to Dover with another driver who took over Alans motor, and I think Alan and Les set off to Brussels to get some visas.
I wont finish the rest of the story as it might spoil it , just in case you can come up the printed article.
Bestbooties did mention that there was a story printed about it years ago in The Sentinal but Alan didn’t mention anything about a reporter going with them which I would of thought was unlikely.Lets hope that Jeff can get some thing out of Phil Bunch about it.
Good luck with the search Ant.
Best regards Steve.
