Found these in my mums photo box last night, paper cuttings from years ago Ref: Shirleys and Beresfords
Also found this, my Dad used to be involvoed with the local CB club, does anybody remember or was in the ‘Spitfire Squadron’ based in Stoke, below is a photo of there float in the Newcastle u Lyme Carnival with one of Mountford Bros Volvos I think about 82 - 83 - Anybody know who the rather dodgey looking nurse is ■■?
Found some of Shirleys in my collection, I will be seeing them later this week, I’ll see if I can borrow some older photos.
Dont take this the wrong way Ant but lets hope you dont sell him anything on your visit .there still in shock from the last two they owned
Flying Foden,
I only sold the 1st one, which Terry had, and as far as I know, they never had any problems with it, Terry and Arthur were very happy with it and it went straight to Poland on its maiden voyage, Arthur always says that it has been the only vehicle to ever turn up ontime, with all paper work and everything ready to go (and it was Pet Reg’d) - can’t comment on the second one, as I was selling Scania’s in Shropshire by the time they had that one, I love the way everybody always jumps to conclusions about Iveco’s and don’t take this the wrong way, but it is generally those who have never driven one, this may not be the case with you, but if you have’nt, pop round to Etruria and I’ll let you have a go in one,

I’ll leave it at that then - good and bad in every truck. - Kettles always on if you want to call though!
A friend of mine as lent me these photos and asked me to post them - so thanks to Paul Oliver for the following.
And one of mine - an old one from Tideswells, who insedently have decided to call it a day after 80 odd years - a sign of the times !!
Also found this, D Rhead, there still going - this was taken on Actif Freight Forwarders yard - Milton in about 81, I think it may be an ex Moorlock F88

Hi, fellow stokies, do any of you have any photo’s of A.E.Cs run by
SID COPE, out of hartshill, late 50s early 60s, one of my mates worked for him,
8 legger rigids, fitted with bolsters to carry long lengths of steel out of
shelton bar, had plenty of overhang back and front, and regularly had to find a tree or a good wall to reverse up to, to push the sliders back in,green coloured
with sideboards, also carried scrap back to the “BAR” or crushed tins (i think)
back into “GOLDENDALE IRON WORKS” or was that only g allcock’s,
sid was a councillor in the city,
anybody remember big gordon bloor,(marine)
all replies will be welcome,
ta-ta stan the man,
it’s only a piece of steel
with wheels on,
good grief theres some memories in here! I remember JSL, I worked in their garage in approx 1989, it was run by Carl Burgess and his son jason burgess, there was a frenchman called Phil who was transport manager. Truckwise I remember an E reg Volvo F10, a scania 141, there was a Daf 3300 they had from scotland in other colours. I went to italy for them in a rented transit van!
Also remember beresfords trucks about, and shirleys running volvo F10’s. I also worked for a local tipper firm, Roy Blase, used to run old Foden 6 wheelers with 180 gardners, and later ERF b series with Rolls royce engines, Pride of the fleet was an ERF C40 with gardner 300 and later a volvo f10.
I can also remember Weavers trucks in those colours as well!
Keep the pics coming and I’ll try and scan in a few of my own!

Carl & Jason were ex DOW Warrington and Phil was ex DOW swindon. Phil was only half French on his mothers side i think.
When i started (1989) I had the Iveco 190-38 (D51 UMB)that was rebuilt and reregistered after belonging to an Irish subbie and being in an accident in France IIRC.
They also had 2 F10s, an F12 driven by a girl called Hazel i think, and a 141 scania.(OAA 932T)
They bought out Dunipace Haulage from Willie Forsyth and had 3 DAFs.
Also had 2 Sed Atki Stratos (G reg) at one time before settling down to an all Volvo fleet towards the end.
Carl:
has anyone got any more pics of thors trucks i work for terry swinson and his son and one of terrys first motors was an ex thor f88
Have a word with The Flying Foden, he has got I.M.H.O. some really amazing old Thor pictures by courtesy of Phil Bunch.
Come on Jeff, share them with the world, they are I believe some of the best Middle Eastern photo’s of British trucks taken in the 1970s. I am always going back to look at the ones that you sent me and thanks again Jeff.
