Any idea who driver is with puncture ?
Yes, it is Ian Fraser (Jock Fraser)
NEE 287M was a bit of an oddball when new as it was a ■■■■■■■ among all the Gardners wasn’t it ?
It was yes, the following year they switched back to a Gardner engine, I don’t know why, maybe it was more thirsty, maybe it was reliability. These were before my time, Dad would have known but can’t ask him anymore.
Yes, I think many drivers complained to Jack Martin about the performance compared to the Gardners but he always replied with the “Yes, but that ■■■■■■■ is doing 2mpg worse than yours !!” I think that picture of the 110 tipping in Fisons rock store at Immingham was used by Taskers as a promotional picture and if you notice the hydraulics are on the trailer because the only one’s with pumps fitted were on the Tioxide job.
That’s right, it was an add for Taskers, I’m sure the photo is in the THB company archive somewhere too.

I do remember Ginger Bob yes, he had a very nasty head on accident with a bus in one of the Fodens.
Morning, No not one! When costs started going up and up, and rates were being chopped to the point there was no profit, the transport side was wound up and the other business’ were focused on. The Grimsby site now consists of a Train2work school, Space People Self Storage and Karting World gokart track.

Is that still run by the Brown family ? Somebody told me a while ago that Guy was living abroad now.

Yes, Martin is my boss. Guy lives in Brasil, trying to convert the world to battery powered buses i believe.
Lilladan:
Very nice pics , the Leyland is a Badger pulling a BTC four-in-line the badger was fast but had poor brakes , the BTC had also bad brakes !!! a dodgy combo for certain , could have 17 ton load legal ! , but Greaves and Lamming never had any 8 wheelers or did much Fisons work , it would have been TH Brown`s Octipus and the Mammoth Mager or Scammell Rautmann going to Cliff Quay Ipswich i think so , Kent was A16 down to A1 at Norman Cross and through London
Was a very strong right leg needed to slow the Badger with the BTC? (back and buttocks pushed back hard into the seat too?)

I always found that was true with any Leyland, they were never good brakes.
Really enjoyed old photos and the memories they stir up of an era of transport and people that sadly doesn’t exist today. Do you keep in touch with any of the old drivers ? Most of the ones I know are retired now.

Sometimes see Angus MacTaggart about, he used to drive a Plover, Saw Jock Fraser at the cenotaph on remembrance Sunday, I was going over to have a word after he finished chatting to another guy, but when i turned back to see if he’d finished, the bugger had gone! Saw Alan Fixter a month or so ago and bumped in to Dougie Webbs lad Lee, but that’s about all i’ve seen since Dads funeral two years ago.
Nice to see these and to remember that the Scania dealer was happy wid Atkinson Defenders for tippers ,but like many did not like Seddon-Atkinson 400 , they had one S-A 400 day cabin tractor wid eight pot Gardner , the driver , was it gipsy Johnny ? said he told them to stick it because it was so cold , and so he left
