Of course Wheel Nut, Denby’s. I am surprised that nobody has mentioned them before.
I once loaded from an old airfield in Lincolnshire for Italy although I am not sure exactly where it was can anybody remember it.
If you came out of Lincoln heading north on the A15, you passed R.A.F. Scampton on the left and then after a few miles you turned left and headed into the countryside. I can remember this old airfield ( although I can’t remember seeing a runway) only having about three hangers, one of them was half full of bales of cloth from Courtaulds. I only saw one guy working there with a forklift who I think worked for Denby as there was a red and white sign on the gate saying Denby Warehousing. There were no other trucks around as it just seemed that this one guy ran the place on his own. I have looked on Google Earth and there are a few possibilities but did anybody else tip or reload from this place or do you know the place that I mean.
While we are in Lincolnshirecan anybody remember the name of the company that were on another old airfield who made similar buildings to Portacabins. I think that they were somewhere near the Gainsborough area.
Regards Steve.
Was it Sturgate or Ingham Steve,Ingham had grass, not concrete strips, just north of Scampton and Sturgate was near Gainsborough? There was also Wickenby and Dunholme Lodge. I was at Scampton just before demob in 1968 and there were a lot of old WW2 airfields in that area.Hemswell was further up and Faldingworth was (maybe still is) a nuclear storage site.
Have Fosters of Langworth been mentioned, near the level crossing on the A158 between Wragby and Lincoln?
Hi Chris, I have been flying over Lincolnshire for the last couple of hours courtesy of Google Air , I think that you are right, again, the Denby Storage place that I loaded at in the mid eighties could well of been at Ingham. I am surprised that there are no old Denby drivers on here as there always seemed to be at least one of Denby’s motors shipping in or out of Dover most days of the week back then. Mind you, they did seem to have a few old fellers working for them who looked like they had been there for a long time which was usually the sign of a decent company.
I still can’t find anything on that company who built the prefabricated buildings although I do remember that they were in competition with Portacabin.
Yes Chris, I mentioned Fosters of Langworth on page one, half way down the page, my mate drove for them for a few years. If he parked up for the night on Birch Services he used to phone me and if I was home I would go and pick him up and we would go for a drink. I know that he had a Mandator and I think he then had a Scania 111, not sure.
Another question that had always bothered me does anybody know if Fosters Transport, Lincoln had any connections with Fosters Engineering Works, Lincoln who were the inventers of the armoured tank
.
Regards Steve.
Yeah that’s the one

Just watching the IOM TT and was reminded about Russ Fenwick Haulage. - Carl FenwickWas W H Martin any connection to Guy Martin. I know he worked in his Dads garage in Kirmington.
When I go up to the Grandstand I’ll ask him if I can get to him unless any of the North Lincs lads on here know?
Hi lad, Guy was working for his dad at caistor but now is working for Mick Moody truck sale in Grimsby when he is not riding like a loon round the TT.
As for young Carl he was working for Crossroads truck & bus (VOLVO) up to 3 weeks ago but left to start up on his own.
The best of luck to the to the both of them this week in the TT.

Hi John, I am sorry but Elliots are not ringing any old bells for me I have a slight feeling that there were some of those extra long static caravans parked on the same airfield as well. Although I am not sure if they made them or they were just being stored there.
Regards Steve.

Steve,IIRC there was big park for static caravans on the l/h side going out of Gainsborough towards Caenby Corner, think the place was called Collingham or was it Corringham . I can’t find another airfield close to Gainsborough in my book except Sturgate and also Blyton on the A159 Scunthorpe road.Hemswell and Kirton Lindsey were the next nearest, there is a big Antiques centre at Hemswell and I think K.L. was taken over by the Army, way after I was there in 1960 and 1963.

Have we mentioned Suthrells and has anyone got pictures of them?
There was a firm Eptons on the outskirts of Boston was it Punchbowl lane we turned off at hubberts bridge to get to it,We took full loads of carpets in to them they did the groupage for the Swedish boat out of Boston Dock they were quite a big firm and ran a few motors Albert one of the Epton brothers was in the yard all the time along with Pop the young forklift driver I think Pop went on to drive for Bentons. The buisness was eventually sold to Humber Mcveigh I think. Eddie.
Can anyone remember a Dutch cattle importer called Butellarr ( not sure about the spelling ) who had a yard in Boston in the late '60s/early '70s. They shipped out of Yarmouth and ran bonnetted AEC drawbar outfits, light blue if my memory serves me correctly. Regards to all, Haddy.
