The Denby base was on the old Ingham aerodrome, which was later known as Cammeringham. This was a mainly grass aerodrome with a concrete perimeter track. The place opened in March 1940 as RAF Ingham, but was renamed RAF Cammeringham in mid-44. Aircraft operated from there were mainly Vickers Wellingtons, including a number of Polish squadrons.
Frans Beutilar (spelling?) operated the old AEC, which was eventually replaced by a Mercury tilt cab, if I remember correctly. Again, if I remember correctly, the old motor was a six-wheeler and the body was transferred to the four-wheeler Mercury.
It was Eptons down Punchbowl Lane, although I forget the initials (not to be confused with H Epton at New Bolingbroke). They has AEC tilt-cab units (Mandators I think) and used to haul a lot of sugar beet on tandem flats with cage sides, in the days before tipping bulk trailers became all the rage. They also had ERF A Series, if I remember correctly. Their yard was taken over by Humber Warehousing/Humber McVeigh and then Swifts (both with F88s). Latterly it was used by Gedneys, all now gone - how sad.

T H Browns were a Grimsby firm, ran Leylands years ago and then Scanias,in fact I think they were Scania agents.Another Grimsby firm was Greaves and Lamming, both firms did a lot of bulk fertilizer for Fisons. And I think you are right Nigel, green livery, both of them.

TH Browns were from Grimsby, and painted blue with a yellow roof for years, but before that they were apple green and originaly from Waltham just south of Grimsby.
This scammell has a Grimsby registration and is pulling a rear steering tri axle. (Boden I belive)
A 6x4 Albion from their early days in Waltham
and the later orible blue and grey livery
Nice photos Steptoe, and now I think about it Browns weren’t green,I think Greaves and Lamming were though.
Must be an owd age thingy.
That Scammell looks well with the tri-axle trailer
Edited
Great photo of the scammell, steptoe. At least my memmory of them being green appears to have been right.
I supose it depends on how old you are as to them being classic or in my case vintage livery.Did humber mc vee
run out of grimsby docks about the same time as T H BROWN were green.
Here is an old photo of an F86 ( OJV 499M ) which my dad drive for Greaves & Lamming from 1972 - 1985.
I will post more Greaves & Lamming and old Grimsby firms next week when i’ve scanded them.
Anyone heard of a company called either John or Gordon Tune from somewhere in Lincs i know its a long shot but my dad got 1 of their old F86 units around 1978 it had done more mileage than the space shuttle i vaguely remember the reg i think it was FFU 841L
Northwall Grimsby?

Dont suppose any of you guys rember a company called HODGEKINSONS TRANSPORT from north hycome.Dad drove
for them in the sixties. We were loaded with massy fergison axles, when dad had a front wheel blow out with his Lad-
Cabed Dodge. When the spare wheel arived on one of their lorries dad made me hide behind the hedge whilst the
wheel was changed. When it was finished and the other lorry had gone,i was allowed back in the cab.I then asked
dad what was going on ,and he said it was company rules not to allow passengers.Happy Days.

I don’t remember Hodgkinson Transport but Cartwright Brothers were in North Hykeham, but Lincoln had some huge engineering companies who had in-house fleets or liveried contractors.
Companies around North Hykeham I remember were Jointine Products (Wiggins Teape) George Fischer Castings
Cartwright Bros Volvo

D.BROWNY:
hi all i am new to this site , what a wonderful site i have spent hours looing though photo’s of old time trucks would love to see if anyone can remember D.M.T transport in lincoln . thankyou daz .Hi Daz,welcome to the forum,I remember DMT from Lincoln but have no photos.I’ll get my brain in gear and think of some old Lincs companies from the 50s and 60s,plenty of produce merchants to go at and others like Barkers and Lee Smith who made cattle food in Lincoln and ran Commer TS3s,Jaines from Louth where I used to live,Red Lion Concrete from Alford - concrete blocks on days and potato deliveries at night
- I think Alford Traffic Services have that yard now.
I’ll have another think…
Have W.A Jaines & Son Ltd gone by the wayside?
Chris Webb:
ERFMarc:
Being a Lincolnshire type can I suggest a few…Garn (Spalding)
Machins (Spalding)
Bronco’s (Spalding - taken over by Gist?)
C F Dickinson (Billinghay - gone now I think)
C & G Concrete (Various)
H E Musgrove (Stamford - bit earlier than 80’s)
P F Booth (Boston)
E T Morris (New York)
Treasures (Grantham)
Grantham Road Services
Christian Salvesen (Easton near Grantham, Dad worked for these)
Cartwright (Lincoln)
Just over the border Ketton (now Castle) Cement
Lauds & Tongue End Transport (Bourne)
David Harrison (Colsterworth)I used to backload off Grantham Road Services,Harlaxton Road in the 60s,concrete slabs from a place down ■■■■■■■■■ Lane off the A1. Is J O Treasure still going, they had milk tankers I think?
Hi Chris,
■■■■■■■■■ Lane is now used mostly by Witham Specialist Vehicles who do the MOD disposal sales, thats on the left hand side as you look at it from the A1. On the right its mostly taken over by a potato processing plant. David Harrison Haulage are also based here, fleet of about 10 red Volvos and Scanias doing mostly potato bulkers. They do a bit of work for Treasures too funnily enough. Mainly tankers and concrete buildings out of the Bell and Webster plant at Grantham.
On another note just been reading an old copy of Heritage Commercials (one of our old wagons was in it) and I was reminded of Geoff Gilbert International, think he has retired now though?
W.A.Jaines are still on the go does a lot of work on lin pac out of louth aiso has one truck on for bing out of immingham and beefy his driver is on DSV.
Can you remember digger who worked on jaines for years?
