Douggie Webbs Scania in Elsham Traffic livery. If I remember correctly was a CAG automatic gearbox which must have been a very early one. Note the ex Browns Tasker trailer which used to be behind the 111
Was AFE 460X Dougieās 111?
I notice the trailer still had the corn box hung on the front too.

No, Iām fairly sure it was WFU or VFU 139V. I canāt remember who had 460X but it did go for scrap at Scunthorpe.
The black 111 in the pictures was that a Plover ?

I can remember a yard full of 111ās and such like from being a young kid, going down on a Saturday evening to make sure everything was locked up and not being tall enough to reach the handle to check if the cab door was locked. My hands were always filthy by the time weād finished, I had to stand on the hub and grab hold of the wheel arch to get high enough for the handle⦠it was a quick jump down and a duck if the door was unlocked!! E reg were new when I started but they were still running stuff as old as V, W, X and Yās

I was told at one point they ran 70-80 trucks including Plover. I know it kept Ian Martin very busy in the garage. Was Geoff Smith still working in the traffic office when you started ?

Hi, ISHIFTS
You seem to have a good few decent pics. of Lincolnshire firms trucks in fact itās rare to see any of Julian Hairs.
Can you tell me if you have any of Russ Fenwicks trucks from Winterton ? If you have can I PM you about pics of one particular truck that I am looking for?
Cheers Bassman

Hi Bassman
I remember Russ Fenwicks trucks were very well turned out volvos but I donāt have any pics of them, in fact the only photos Iāve seen of them are on this forum. I think there were some green trucks that parked in the same yard and I donāt have any pics of them either.

I was looking at a traffic diary i the Company archive from 1970, there was almost a hundred trucks listed and some days almost the same amount of loads subbed out 200 loads per day!! not every day mind.
I remember Geoff, Jack Martin, Stuart Cake, Alan Fisher, Jack Harlow and Dave Wilson from before i was old enough to work there.
Stuart was in charge at Elsham when I started, Geoff and Fisher had gone, Jack Harlow retired soon after I started and Dave Wilson, Dave Smith was the two main ones with what seemed like regular changes on the other desks. Dad ended up working under Geoff Smith fro his last year and a half before retirement at Simon Storage having been transferred under T.U.P.E.E regs with the ilmanite job in Tioxide.

You wouldnāt want 100 lorries today with all the factory closures and downturn in industry. If you were to look at the records and see how many of them jobs exist today it would be frightening !!!I donāt know where the photo of 139V is taken but it looks loaded with pulp that used to come to courtaulds at Grimsby fro portbury dock Bristol.
I totally agree! No tioxide, no courtaulds and nothing like as much fertilizer from āFisonsā as there used to be let alone all the smaller jobs we used to take on as well even as far as collecting ice from the icehouse for a cleaning process in Cibaās⦠OK Cibaās is still there but the icehouse is closed and falling into disrepair.
I also agree, it does look like a load of pulp from Portburry, he must be homeward bound!!
