Jennie:
So have you heard back with results and what happens next for you

I’ve just had a letter that says I have to go to see the consultant who will do the operation.
My appointment to see the consultant is 03/01/2012, so that’s when I’ll be told my fortune.
In an ideal world, I was rather hoping to have the Op sometime before Xmas and then use the Xmas period to recuperate ready for the New Year, but that’s not to be.

First of all, I got a clinic appointment to see the surgeon on 3rd Jan, so I made suitable arrangements…
Then on 2nd Jan I got a letter and an answerphone message on my landline postponing my appointment until 10th Jan.
Now I’ve just received another letter postponing my appointment until 13th Feb.
I know that emergencies take priority etc, etc, and sometimes a surgeon might need to rearrange things for other reasons, but to be rearranged TWICE at such short notice isn’t good.
Hope all goes well for you tomorrow Dave, (thats if they haven’t cancelled again!!), let us know how you getting on…'bout time the Doc sorted things for you

Hi Jennie,
Yes, that’s correct.
The neuro-surgeon plans to invade my skull using sharp and pointy things.
In a further update, the Dr who refered me to the surgeon got in touch by phone this morning… he’s going to arrange for me to have a heart scan for the purpose of judging the risks of the anaesthetic involved in my forthcoming op.
I’m pleased that they are getting the ‘wheels turning’ for you now Dave, I hope they get all sorted quickley for you, surgery through your nose dosn’t sound pleasent good job you’ll be under anasthetic, & when you wake up , it will be all sorted
It was the ultrasound department at Chester hospital and they offered me a cancellation, but only if I could get there by 16:00, which was conveniently achieveable just after work.
I managed to get there, and they even found my heart, so I do have one after all.
Apparently, it’s in quite good condition for my age and there’s no sign of the cardiomegaly that the Dr feared I might have.
So, there’s some good news at last.
Friday got a bit better too, because when I got home after the hospital trip, there was a letter from the Liverpool hospital asking me to come in for the pre-operative assessment on 16th March.
Well folks, yesterday I overcame another hurdle on my way to my op.
I had to attend the hospital for a pre-operative assessment, and they were quite thorough.
Present medication noted, height, weight, 5 blood samples taken, ECG, urine test, and blood-sugar test.
Then they took a detailed written history of my symptoms and when I’d noticed each one.
After that they studied my notes and read all the referral letters and ultrasound result plus the notes made by the surgeon when I saw her at my last appointment.
The outcome was that I’ve been passed fit to have the operation, and I can expect a call up letter and a surgeon making a hole in my head fairly soon…
Best of luck Dave. There will be a pint on the Hotel bar for you when you get back on your feet. You make it sound like routine, yet I am only in for another MRI on Tuesday and I am already on the Diazepam.
