Hi boys
Thanks for that Norm I bet that brought back a few memories for you. It’s nice to be able to picture those places in your mind as they were but I bet they have completely changed now. I think I prefer to stick with my memores.
Dave the ferries are a lot better nowadays they sail through the waves instead of going up and over them not so much feeding the fish over the side.  If it’s really bad on the Woolage ferry you could always use the Blackwall Tunnel

Regards Keith

Yes Keith everywhere changes over the years, nothing remains the same, our memories keep us going, the hardship was there, but you remember the good and funny times, and when you lok at the maps or see a video of where we travelled too, I think to myself, youth is a great thing, you don’t think of the distant or danger when your young! But I do consider it now, and feel proud I was one of the M/E drivers to complete many trips and return safely back home, it still sends a tingle through my body when certain things come to light.

hiya,
Dave I’ll get you a trip out on a trawler, at this time of year that
might just change your mind about becoming nautical, although
I’ve had a roughish Irish Sea crossing or two and those Ferries are
quite big, I think I must have been a bit sadistic though I enjoyed
watching those Rufty Tufty lorry drivers feeding the fish with their
last meal when I was strolling round the outer decks and enjoying
a Woodbine before going to the bar for a jar or two.

Hi Harry,
Enjoyed watching the Trawler men programs on TV.Looks a hard rough job, very dangerous and cold by the looks of it.
I would think you have to brought up in a fishing family to become a trawler-man,or be a fearless bloke who likes a lot of cold and danger.I don’t think I would be seasick, have only been across from the Portsmouh to the I O W,as I said, also Weston-Super-Mare to Cardiff-Penarth and return on a paddle steamer many years ago.
I found it enjoyable, but the sea wasn’t rough.Only way to find out is give it a go. :open_mouth:
Cheers Dave.

If I go on a trip to France Harry,it will be the ferry, otherwise I won’t bother. Can’t see much in a tunnel.

hiya,
Dave, have done many ferry trips but the only ones I’ve done with a vehicle
are the ones o’er the Irish Sea, the ones from North Shields, that’s a longish
one where you sleep in a cabin have done that as passenger when spending
a couple of nights in Amsterdam been a few times on that one, have also
done the one from Dover when going to Spain and Belgium (booze cruise) on
the bus on all occasions, I think the customs have knocked the booze and
baccy job into a cocked hat now seemingly it’s not worth the trouble now.
thanks harry, long retired.

if you want to go on a booze cruise harry any ferry except caledonian macbrayne is going in the wrong direction . book yourself on a coach tour on the whisky trail next summer , they even speak some kind of english up there , not that that matters by the third or fourth distillery you wouldn’t understand anything anyway . years ago i had my introduction to proper whisky up in kintail , black bottle i think , it was like drinking mothers milk , fissed as a part , but no hangover except swmbo calling me all the usual things in the morning , cheers , dave
