were busy restoring this 1948 dennis jubilant . we think its 1948 ?
we no that at some point it belonged to NIT as it was painted on the doors . it has been shortened at some point . the engine is an 0 6 dennis it also has a dennis gearbox .
Pictured leaving Spillers Mill at Beaufort Road Birkenhead. Spillers never had a flour mill in Northern Ireland, but we did have a warehouse for bagged flour there. Bulk flour loads were delivered with Birkenhead mill tankers using the ferry, but it then became cheaper to use containers for bulk loads with NI Trailers

This is stirring vague memories of my earliest days with Pandoro in Fleetwood - I started in 1976 - and I wonder was this a mobile workshop or something? It looks like Pandoro blue paint on it and, perhaps, the shape of the original, rectangular Pandoro logo transfer?
Whereabouts did you find it? There is an early Atki Mk.1 from N.I.T., being restored in West Lancs - it was a mobile workshop with Pandoro in the late 70s.

Bit late in replying to this, but I knew Arthur Bowers when he drove for W&J Wass Transport , Longton.
Quite a few of the Bowers family were employed there ( I was there in 1966-67 as an apprentice mechanic).
hello all, saw the northern ireland trailers message and got all nostalgic.I worked for n.i.t. around 1970 to 1974. Not sure of exact dates but i left just before they became pandora and moved to fleetwood. i left to go to wh malcolm at lostock hall.My first day at n.i.t. i drove a leyland comet with a scammel coupling, the next day i got an erf with a 150 gardener. Had this for quite a while , 40mph, roasting in summer, freezing in winter.I then got an atkinson borderer with a 205 ■■■■■■■ and fuller gearbox, loved that unit.(really) As i was a preston driver stoke depot was for fuel and get out quick. They had a habit of keeping you there overnight if they where short of trunk loads late afternoon.I n those log book days many of us would fiddle home to preston from stoke(i lived at leyland)you put your keys in the office and just as you where leaving a voice would shout “six in the morning”
just to be awkward, accept it and catch the last preston stoke trunk next morning on the cuerdale bridge.my mates at preston where freddie taylor,
bob wright, raymond scupsky?(think thats the spelling) gunner , bert wright, and many other great blokes. Do you all remember delivering bacon in summer.I usedto get whitney ,reading , basingstoke, southampton.portsmouth and southsea. 3 days in summer of blue bottles, crusty white boots and tired of digging in the load for the right bales.(yes the bacon bay did make mistakes)still all in all loved it .

Here you are, a Borderer with a 205 ■■■■■■■ and a 10-speed Fuller:
‘Ardennes’, you also mentioned some familiar names (apart from the DBC depots!), including Gunnar Plits: I believe this was Gunnar’s motor when it was new, although it’s seen here in 1982, during its life as Pandoro’s training vehicle:

Yes, I knew Arthur Bowers when I worked with him at W & J Wass Transport at Longton.
Nice guy as I remember, and also his father George worked there at the same time.
George was the last of the original horse and cart men.
I think Arthur went to N I T around 1967.

Stan, I am currently restoring an Atki that was new to N.I.T in 1970, it was the last Atki bought to N.I.T spec reg MRN 382K Unfortunately I did not discover it’s history before I painted it in my livery. Pictures on my web site. regard Al
Stan if you contact “Heritage Commercials” mag. you will find that (I think) last year they did a copy of some ERF advertising blurb, the sale stuff that goes to potential buyers etc.
The article was a 2 or 3 page spread and the wagon they used was a “G” or “C” reg ERF day cab complete in the colours of Northern Ireland Trailers.
I did know the foreman night fitter at preston dock (long before the move to Fleetwood days) and his name was Frank Newman and also I worked with an ex NIT,s driver many moons ago called Joe Turner who lived in Chorley.

Norman, I have the brochure you’re referring to, and (without digging it out to confirm) I think it’s a G-reg and is taken on the dock at Preston coupled to a Pitt skeletal trailer with two 20’ NIT boxes on it.
Joe Turner has his own firm (as you may know) which is Turners of Hoole - a very smart fleet of ERFs
