spuggy25:
Just been looking through some of these posts and pics and I remember driving a few of the trucks in the photos. I was known at Lewis’s as Sooty Little Legs. I remember Manny, David Arthur Martin, Simmo, Ginger, Dave Hall, Paul Brown, Graham Broadley. I’m still wagon driving but not on the tankers anymore. Would be nice to hear from anyone who remembers me and to see some more pics if anyone has got any.
You were on Turners out of Batley more recently then?
Left Turners in 2006, went on palletts and hen containers, now on steel out of Sherburn
Im not sure how you do a link but the man on the Cotswold car and commercial website maybe of interest not sure where its been hiding but ive not seen a truck in those colours for a long time

I’d guess most of the Scanias are long gone now… Hope you and yours are well, CCK!
Here’s some I took of the truck my step-brother drove when he worked for Norman Lewis, it had been planned for me to accompany him on this trip but he took someone else so I was going to go with him on his next trip abroad but this turned out to be his last trip as when he returned he finished there to go elsewhere, so I never got to go over the water. regards prattman.
Hi Prattman Where was the pictures taken, I’m sure you would have missed a real treat not going on the trip & maybe meeting up with some of the lads around that time, what did they call your step-brother. Cheers CCK
Hi CCK
The first two photos were taken outside our house at the time I lived at home with my mother and step father the other three were taken on the road from Shotley Bridge leading up to the A68 at Carter Way Heads, just behind me and to my left was W. A. Glendinning’s old yard, my step brother is called Bill White used to work there driving a car transporter he then met a women over the CB who was from Thirsk so he eventually moved to Thirsk where as far as I know he still lives.
After moving to Thirsk he still worked for Glendinning for a period of time then left there and at some point ended up at Norman Lewis how long he worked there I don’t know, we are not very close I think in 15 years I have only seen him once.regards prattman.
FAO: the OP: I used to work for P E Blake from the late 90s to early noughties, unfortunately a few of the old hands that you are referring to are no longer with us, great bunch of guys with a vast knowledge of driving on the continent! They provided me with no end of advice and were only keen to pass on their experience, without that I may still be at…
Hi All ex Norman Lewis drivers or tanker drivers interested, I have just created a page for Ex Norman Lewis Tankers & Lewis Tankers on Facebook, If any of you have posted pictures on this thread could you grant me permission to use them on the facebook page please, you may PM me.many thanks Mel CCK

Unfortunately I dont remember any of those particular trucks, The 112 pictured is RHD and I only remember us having left ■■■■■■ Scanias. The first time I took one to Castleford, it frightened me to death The V8’s had all gone by then too and the first new F90’s were being delivered.
There are a few more pictured in Dover on Ash’s thread and a couple more that found their way across the desert.
I know Keith and Ginger both had V8,s but they were already at Bertschi when I started on a B reg 331
ovlov, did you work there when HC Wilson had an office in the yard?
The 142`s you are correct Ginger and Simmo had them. The one in the pic is the one Simmo had.
I remember the first time i met Simmo at the tankwash in Tarragona, what a shame the next day was a holiday and had to spend it playing dominoes in the restaraunt with Simmo,Newark rules of course
There was a couple of RHD 112s,if i remember they were all about goosed when i was there.I had the choice either a Scania 112 or a MAN,i chose tha Man,it was a 331 i has and i could keep upi with them 142s all day long.
Good memories working for Norman,i think i learned more there in five years, than would have in 20 years working elsewhere.

Me too. Blue.
It certainly taught you were you could get a drink almost anywhere in Europe
You had just got one of those J reg KTY trucks and maybe Dean got your old one. I was given B346 VOU, how sad is that to remember?
I drove a LHD Scania for a fortnight while mine was in for MOT. Selwyn had it for a while.
Graham Broadley bought the last one and it did him very well, till he got an FH
I didn’t work there mate I worked for Dawson Freight but knew most of Normans drivers from Ludwigshafen. I still see Keith every now and then he still works part time at Batley tankwash, as for ginger he was a good friend but I’ve not seen him for years he eventually retired and as far as I know he’s still in Blackpool I saw more of ginger when he left Normans the first time and went for TankTrans at Tyldesley Manchester though that didn’t last long and he went back to Normans and took Johnny Hope with him now sadly deceased I believe.
