Norman Lewis...Especially for Wheel Nut

Seems as though things are still going well for the new owners.

I snapped this one at Truckfest 1984…

…hope it’s of interest to someone.

Hiya Glyn. I know you will look in here occasionally

glyno is a new member who used to work with me in Zeebrugge

Hi all. Just a memory from yesteryear. I worked for Robert Armstrong in the mid/late 80’s and was week ended near Ludwigshaven. I was parked up in a truck stop on the Friday. Had a meal, went to bed and woke up to find just 2 trucks in the park. Me and a Dutch registered Norman Lewis Scania and tanker. About 9’ish the driver stirs and me thinking he’s Dutch tries a bit of broken English on him, ‘Morning mate’ (always breaks the ice, lol) Turns out he’s English! His name was Steve and he was ex forces. Anyway, at the truck stop this particular week end they are holding a driver competition and we were politely asked to go away so they could set the show up. So we both drive into Ludwigshaven near to BASF and parks up in the town. We later found a bar called ‘Charlies Bar’ along this street and had a blinding week end. We parted company on the Sunday never to meet again. Nice chap was Steve. Anyone remember him? I do remember him being very young for a Class 1 driver and he said he’d passed his Class 1 in the Army and that’s how come he was driving so young. Happy days. ATB Richard

Did he call you Pet?
Did he look like Mr Blobby :stuck_out_tongue:

Late 80’s narrows it down a bit, Charlies Bar has a lot to answer for,. Steve was probably Selwyn.
Steve Whittaker was his name, as the other Steves I recall were Steve Beverley and Steve Shearer who could never be classed as young.

Yes Pet Me too, I don’t think Selwyn was for the army, as i remember him he was going to be a trucker through & through from an early age. But if he did use Manny’s catch frase, Yes Pet! it could well have been Selwyn that nosmoking met.

PB or Simon will know the answer.

Double post for Yo-Yo :frowning:

Wagsie has just posted on the S Jones thread that YOYO passed away earlier today 25/4/2012

RIP Mate. I worked with him recently at Transalliance as well as when I was at Gruber and Lewis.

Drove that Merc when Dave Hall was on holiday, it was very very clean inside and out.

Sniffy:
A couple of more recent yard shots, not sure of the date

I drove one of these 9200 in 1994/1995

Sorry, can’t help with anyone else.
I knew Joe when he was doing ME for Panalpina.

OK cheers. I know they were “mates” sort of and both worked at Harold Woods together

Did you work at Harold Woods?

No, they were long gone when I started although I do remember the lorries. Norman employed all the spillover. Tommy Varley. (Hansons) Keith Mitchell, Keith Grimshaw, Joe Craven, Donald ? Sooty.

The Heckmondwyke yard was being used by Mike Melton for building his road tankers

If its the same Sooty im thinking of he died a few years back im good mates with 1 of his sons

Donald (DOOM AND GLUM) always knew how many days till he would retire and move to Spain, i remember when he ran up bankside along the autoroute south of Reims and turned it over!

A gentleman called Keith Gimshaw sent me some Photos that might fit here

I hope Keith is OK, get him on here, he will have some tales to tell. I doubt Sharpy knows how to turn a computer on yet :stuck_out_tongue:

Well he never learned to play the bloody guitar he carried everywhere in the cab.

Here is a photo of Dave Hall not driving the merc. Also a photo inside the Bikers Bar Lugwigshaven. Seems a lifetime a go!

Albert doing his hair, typical :stuck_out_tongue:

More work for Lewis Tankers, This was in the Selby Post 10-01-2013

Just been looking through some of these posts and pics and I remember driving a few of the trucks in the photos. I was known at Lewis’s as Sooty Little Legs. I remember Manny, David Arthur Martin, Simmo, Ginger, Dave Hall, Paul Brown, Graham Broadley. I’m still wagon driving but not on the tankers anymore. Would be nice to hear from anyone who remembers me and to see some more pics if anyone has got any.
